Great post. Thank you for the build guide. Btw I fist saw the post on reddit.

So I am doing a thematically similar build (character - pabanus) except I chose Chieftan for it. What is is your opinion on the following:

1. Do you think the build can be shaper vaible like yours with Chieftan instad of Berserker?
2. I see you take elemental focus, dont you lose quite a bit of dips because of no ignites?
3. Do you think this build can work without vaal pact?

Thank you.

Hey thank you for posting.
To answer your questions with my opinion:

1. While you would not be able to leech through his beam attack like I did, and you'd probably have less damage, a chieftain could definitely do Shaper. You'd be less reliant on leech and the fight could drag out a little more. Also, not being a Berserker means you'd probably need to avoid The Unshaped's degenerative ground effect as well.

2. Only the largest ignite is applied. This means we can only have one ignite doing damage at any point. Because this character inflicts a lot of medium damage hits, ignite would not do a lot. This makes elemental focus a good pick for the build.

You could use some sort of emberwake / taming ring combo. I talk about using those rings a bit in the further discussion section of the guide.

3. Seeing as you're interested in using a Chieftain, I would not advice you to use vaal pact. In my experience playing this build, Vaal Pact is only beneficial because of the Berserker's ascendancy. And the Berserker's ascendancy is mostly useful because of vaal pact. They're two halves of a whole.

Getting survivability through life regeneration, endurance charges along with a higher health pool than mine should work. But you'd need to start worrying about other hits than just one-shots. Not getting leeched to full life instantly after receiving damage makes you vulnerable to enemies wearing you down.

Hey I'm making a build that is very similar to yours. Do you think the taming + emberwake is worth, or is getting str rings with resists better?

I'm not sure. I know for a fact that LiftingNerdBro (the streamer) is attempting this currently. On paper it seems like an amazing idea because we could then double dip all our damage. But getting chance to ignite / crit is incredibly hard on the passive tree.

Losing resist on rings would mean you'd be extremely tight on resists for the other parts of your gear. And this would skyrocket the price of gearing. The rings would also make you loose about 70-100 strength, along with a good chunk of maximum life.
The character already has comparable damage to poison / ignite builds, so I would argue the necessity of more damage.

But I have not yet seen a character with the right gear for testing this. And I invite you to try it :)

So I've spent quite a few hours theorycrafting in Path of Building and agree with trading damage for more survivability... however, instead of investing those points towards life, I tried investing in mana and Mind Over Matter. Found a really sick synergy for the build by using Shaper's Touch gloves and Geofri's Sanctuary. It may sound a bit weird, but Shaper's Touch gives us upwards of 3K mana(around 1K unreserved with auras and enlighten) and a crap ton of ES percent increase. Not to mention the fact that they greatly improve our lackluster accuracy. Paired with Geofri's Sanctuary we get around 3K ES to achieve an insane health pool on par with most CI builds. With all the uniques, it requires a bit of micro managing to deal with resists, but it's still very doable. The synergy with Shaper's Touch and Geofri's Sanctuary is just too cool to pass up. With this set up, I do believe it to be worth it to use Inertia jewels over rare GG jewels. One near Vaal Pact and the other to the top right of the duelist start. These two net around 180 strength which works super well with Shaper's Touch for more ES and Mana. Have yet to try this out in game and forsee some issues with being hybrid and have never gone hybrid with a build before, but I am really looking forward to it and I think it makes a lot of sense here. Leveling my character currently so I'll be back with more info on whether this is worthwhile.

Thank you. Those are all very good points. Given how chieftan has high chance of ignite, I may look into taming combo. Would you mind taking a quick glance at my chiftan version of the passive tree to see if there is anything blatantly wrong with it? The only one I can see right away is that maybe iron grip should be removed but since I don't have xophs blood yet and its just one point, path of building is telling me it's not a bad amound of total dps per point.

I'd suggest you pick up unwavering stance instead of using Kaom's roots (assuming you're using them since you haven't picked up unwavering stance). That way, you could get Abberath's Hooves which give you strength, great % fire damage and much needed chance to ignite.

Don't forget to pick up a mana leech node by the vitality void cluster.

It seems a shame not to use Elemental Overload for 40% more double dipping damage. You also pick up good dexterity and intelligence on the way to there, which could possibly let you skip the Dex and Int major nodes you've picked up. But in doing so you'd probably have to give up an endurance charge.

I've played around with a few versions of your tree but nothing objectively improved comes out of it, so I guess you're fine as is. Looking forward to seeing how your character develops.

After some testing I've found about a 20% damage increase with taming. I would say having rare rings with str will be better as I don't think this build will lack any damage without the ring.

Thank you for your feedback. I loaded up your path of building and mine and after some testing I was thoroughly disappointed because I can not get the dips numbers come anywhere near half a million that you have. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure where the most of your damage comes from but I am just not quite sure.

Here is my path of building code. Is the difference in ascendancy really that big or am I missing something?

The difference between berserker and chieftain is extreme, i started as chieftain day one and moved to berserker when i hit higher content, in the end berserker is tougher and hits harder.
