%Increased Area, how does it work with conical aoe's?

Maybe for you, but not for me. Am I strange? It's probably because I play melee, which means I'm usually centered in a group of monsters, so, assuming roughly equal monster distribution, x% increased Area of Effect will now let me hit x% more enemies.

Before, it would have been x% increased Radius of Area of Effect skill allows me to hit x% more * x% more enemies. Or to put it another way (1+x)^2-1 % more enemies.

That's the problem I have with how new AoE modifiers work - square roots.
Before, if I have, say, 30% inc radius, and get another 20%, I can, you know, just instantly estimate - without any tools, just calculate in my head - what effect it will make on my aoe: 20/130 = about 15% more radius (because let's face it, radius is what you use to measure your coverage, not "area").
Now what I have to do in same situation but with "area" instead of "radius": sqrt(130+20)/sqrt(130)-1 = 7.5%. No fucking way I could do this without a calculator. In a meaningful amount of time, at least.
Now I understand to plan a build you use not only that but excel and other shit, but just to estimate an effect of one increase I now have to use external tools? This is wrong way to do it, GGG. I shudder to think what lies ahead if this is the path you've taken for solving modifier-stacking problems.
It'll be easier once you're dealing in %area, though it adds an extra step if you only care about radius. From 100% increased area to 140% area is 20% more area, or about 10% more radius.

And I usually think in area for circular aoe's, but radius is more intuitive for one-directional stuff like blight or ground slam I agree.

This is why I was never a big fan of Geometry in high school, just having to deal with circles and stuff made me go sleep mode real fast. Though, Calculus in uni provided me a lot of entertainment, but that was a while back, so I am very rusty now.

Glad to see Mark came to the scene to confirm the AoE doubts that are still lingering.
