guide/how to: ULTRA LOW settings for weak systems

Thx!

This just helped me a lot!

Game is smooth usually, but when I just ran into a really badly designed ascendency trial on a map (finally one I did not have already!) my game went down to unplayable there.
I had that before on other trials, but not that bad.

Set the graphics lower than the UI allows me to do, and suddenly I had enough frames/s to cakewalk through it.
Bad thing GGG makes the only ever challenge on those trials or the labyrinth performance issues like that. -.-
thumps up
need new settings for mega ultra low settings. After 3.0 patch PC overheat ((

light_quality=1 - ???
target_fps=20
use_dynamic_resolution=false
water_detail=0 ???
true.. we need help with the new config. Why you low the target fps?
ok, this config help me play without overheat, but still no so good as was in 2,6. In 2.6 i have in 2 times better quality and play without overheat. Now i need put ultra potato quality and still have 2 times more cpu/gpu load than was before patch.

because i disable dynamic resolution, without it target fps doesnt work
I need help too, my laptop overheats badly, i use dx 9 and texture quality 5
It was playable before 3.0 but now its awfull ... even if i move texture qual to 6 its still worst than 2.6, and i was hoping for performance improvements.

Why would you turn off V sync? As far as I know, it makes your GPU set the same frame rate that your monitor is refreshing with, so it won't process images that you simply would not see anyway. Try setting the vsync on true if you have some overheat problems, some people also mentioned, that game is going a lot smoother on fullscreen(Though playing with 800x600 resolution and fullscreen is a pain nowadays). The texture quality is technically a texture scaling, so it should modify the size of textures that are loading to render, the more the number, the more blurry textures will become. GGG also did some changes to the engine multithreading feature, while it was making my game crash and drop back on 2.6, on 3.0 it actually helps to improve the performance, though, my buddies actually having problems using it, which is probably is a deeper issue. So try to switch it off and on and check what is better. And oh, well, dynamic resolution actually makes the effects on screen blurry, so it will be easier to process when the engine thinks it's overloaded, it definitely should be set on true. Also I've noticed that the game behaves differently with various DirectX mods used, most people say that the best is DX11, but if you could'nt use it by some reason, try switching the DX mode settings and see whats happen.

To be honest, this game works fine on some rigs, and some rigs, that sometimes are a lot better, could'nt handle it the same smooth way, the best way for you is to find which settings will suit your PC as best as possible and make conclusions.

Everything else seems good in these settings and should be working with the current version of the game. Try also -ns or --nosound start settings in your steam/.exe shortcut, it will disable the engine sound system and MIGHT decrease the overheating and improve performance.

P.S For those who got these settings file broke - It can break after updates and each time you do something to the settings in game. The game itself reloads this file with a minimum default settings, ruining your magik, so dont edit graphics thru the game\edit the settings file after you edit it thru the game. And dont forget to set up "read only" flag, to be sure.

P.S.S also noticed some issues with this game using multiproccessor technology, some third company programms or direct setting up CPUs to work with PoE might help.

Why Vsync off? Since my FPS is a bit below 60(monitor max) I don't need it to cut the gpu performance in case it makes 60+ fps that my monitor can't display anyway. That is what Vsync does. If my framerate would be above 60 I wouldn't be reading this thread. I would be happy with a constant 25.

I can't get the settings to work. When I first downloaded the game (3.0) I was able to edit the file and play with the settings I choose. Now everytime I open the game it just resets the text file to the standard config. Any idea?
