" This is really not what Otaku actually means, sorry. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" Sorry you are wrong. Learn culture before you discuss it. It is mostly associated with people who are over obssessive on a given thing, usually Anime in Japanese Culture. These individuals have no social life and stay at home. They often are Actually in love with anime characters and even go so far as to marry dolls, pillows, ect ect representing said characters. You are probably refering to the way Americans use it, trying to turn a negative connotation into a positive one. Just like the band "In This Moment" and their song / album called "Wh•re" Chroniccomplainerreviews.wordpress.com Your source for quality honest reviews to save you time and money! " Actually, as opposite to you ( because you really seem to be ), I am not seeing this with a foreigner's full of cliches and made up sh** mind, and I know very well what it is. Your definition is very extreme and is a pathetic caricature made up by foreign people who apparently like to feel good about thinking completely distorded thing about Japan. You failing for this one is not that surprising, since the internet is full of those things, and you are quoting an English "definition". Such caricatures and cliches are really what I find pathetic, people living outside of Japan, not speaking the language and just feeding themselves with ( and spreading ) those kind of cliches give a terrible image of Japan which is very far from the reality. Next time, try to actually document yourself, and if you have no contact, then try not to speak as if you knew, because you clearly don't. 次回分からなかったら、嘘が止めたらありがたいわ SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. " Nice of you to offer to do so, but I find it doubtful that you even know which culture Fruz identifies with. To put your argument to bed: The word "otaku" has negative connotations in Japan as well, but its meaning is changing, and there is no single uniform accepted definition. It was originally used to tease people who were into anime, figures, etc., but such fans have started claiming the word as their own. It also can be used as a catch-all for "geek" when used as a suffix (e.g., baseball geek, ballet geek, whatever); that is, someone who is very deeply into something. In this sense, it is not really pejorative. Source: My own knowledge. But what I just said is also summarized here. The English wikipedia entry has some more info in the intro, regarding some additional baggage carried by the word. I think the word you folks are looking for is "hikikomori." Those are the people who live like hermits, and it has nothing to do with anime or video games. There is some crossover between hikikomori and and otaku, but that's only because hikikomori prefer indoor activities with little to no actual human interaction.
Otaku, for the most part, is really no different than calling someone a nerd or geek. Like such Western terms, it was once used very negatively and was synonymous with pathetic losers. But as older otaku have become functioning members of society, much like older nerds/geeks here in the west, the term more or less has come to mean "someone fixated on a hobby." And that's not exclusively anime or games, other common subjects are trains and military hardware. Long story short: Otaku are like Trekkies. 20-or-so years ago they were considered freaks and lunatics. Nowadays the general opinion of them is "Eh, they're kinda odd." This is a buff™

" Thank you, I find it pretty well put. Wikipedia has pretty "interesting" things on the subject. I want to be clear that I wasn't particularly attacking Jgizle, it's just that since I have much more insight on Japan I realize how such stereotypes hurt, hurt the global image of the country but also its people ( I start feeling this too, like honestly ). "Hikikomori" would fit however. Many Hikikomori are probably otaku, but it does not mean that Otaku are what you thought they were. You could see Otaku as just geeks indeed, nowadays. Being otaku can even be seen as something positive now actually. Btw, if you are really interested in Japanese culture ... you will find plenty of such stereotypes on the internet, what buzzes has more chances to stand out, unfortunately. Sorry for the derailment, the word Neet might indeed be a bit different from OP meant. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Last edited by Fruz#6137 on Nov 12, 2016, 5:30:48 AM
