I assume that one of the two sources is me, regarding an exchange with Chris. It was in response to a letter that I sent him, which you can read here:

Specifically, he said that it's more likely that they will move the Ascendancy points out of the Labyrinth (in the future, not soon) than substantially change the core feeling of how it plays.

Now, that's not the same as saying a separation of the two is likely, but it does

A) confirm that they are considering it, and
B) suggest that the possibility is not so far-fetched as many lab-lovers swear on their dying breaths.

His previous sentence was an apology for not giving a more in-depth answer to my long letter, because he had a shit-ton to do by Friday, when Prophecy was coming out.
