8 switches puzzle in lab

I know this is a somewhat old topic, but the solution follows a very simple pattern and I figured I let everyone know the easiest way to remember the solution (without memorizing a random pattern like listed above). First know that they all start as "open". When you click one, it closes, as well as the two next to it (one on the left, one on the right).

So basically, you start with any button at all, press it, call this [1]. Now, press the one directly across from 1 (if its a corner, click the opposite corner, if its an edge, click the opposite edge) call this [2]. Next, choose to move either clockwise or counter clockwise, either works. Move TWO spots in that direction (skipping only one) and press that one, call this [3]. If 2 was an edge, 3 should also be an edge, same for corners. Now, press the button directly across from 3, call this [4]. Again, move in the same direction you chose last time, not skipping one button, and press it, calling it [5]. Again, press the button opposite of 5, call it [6]. Repeat this pattern once more, moving the same direction from 6, skipping one, and calling it 7. Last, press the button opposite of 7.

The basic pattern is press, press opposite, skip one (left), press opposite, press one left, press opposite, skip one (left), press opposite. This works starting from any position, moving left or right. It should also work moving left or right throughout one solve, not going the same direction each move, but it is easier to remember the pattern just following one direction

Not sure how they work (I just skip this kinda stuff) but if they do work as "it plus the two adjacent switches all change state?" then the order in which you press them shouldnt matter? So you can just press all of them in arbitrary order?
