Died last night... uber lab trial this time... quitting poe again

Died early last night to some lab traps. No, this is not a rant or rage post. It is now nearly 12 hours since that death, I'm past the point of being angry about it. I've played a little on my saboteur and messed around with some build theories, but I've decided what happened is not acceptable and I'm not playing POE again until the next major update that has a chance of fixing all this crap.

Story:
So after spending several WEEKS doing maps looking for TRIALS (because we can't have uber lab trials just be a place you can go to, they have to be RNG) I died AT LEVEL 89 to unavoidable trap damage in a troll uber trial layout.

The reasons this is absolutely unacceptable are the following:
1. Character progression gated behind these shitty mechanics
2. RNG trial locations
3. Could have seen the layout and quit, but after four WEEKS of looking for this crap I was not about to do that, ever
4. For tanky right-tree builds, traps are doing HUNDREDS OF TIMES the damage output of MAP BOSSES
5. Nobody even wants to do this moronic lab in the first place, NOBODY LIKES IT

Also, here's the takeaway from the actual character build:
1. After adding ascendancies, several new uniques, and tons of extra content and power creep, viper strike is still a completely trash skill. You've had so many chances to make this skill NOT SHIT that it's simply astounding you've managed to be unable to make the skill useable with all this new content. Even regular bladefall builds are killing map bosses in seconds so why bother ever using a growing agony jewel AT ALL, EVER? In fact this build would again probably clear faster with bladefall or blade vortex because again, frenzy charges (best scaling for VS), crit, and phys/chaos hybrid nodes also scale bladefall and blade vortex poison builds just as well as VS. Only thing that scales VS that didn't scale these gems is attack speed, which is so hard to come by in the tree that you might as well not take any attack speed nodes at all. 45% attack speed is one support gem, you'd take nearly TEN POINTS in the passive tree to reach that kind of power, and it's not even as good as multistrike. Compare that to melee physical damage or critical damage support that are mostly doing the damage of two good notables AND are a more multiplier...it's absurd how bad attack speed nodes are and how bad VS still is. Honestly if I could equip a level 20 bladefall on my level 55 saboteur he would clear endgame maps faster and I put 0 thought into that character.
2. Actual melee skills still horrible compared to pretty much everything... can't wait to see someone try using glacial hammer to race to 100 in a new league LOL.
3. Time on target damage scaling is the absolute dumbest idea I've ever seen in my entire life for a game like POE (growing agony)

Here's the sole positive note about what ascendancies have done to fix certain things:
Hybrid defenses are now actually made viable thanks to shade form, good job finally fixing this one. Shade form and ghost dance are both extremely good build-enabling ascendancies

Unfortunately the aforementioned problems still kill this game for me. This is probably the first and last time I've actually felt like kicking chris wilson in the d*** and telling him to f*** off. I was debating forking over some cash at the beginning of this league because of how cool the ascendancies looked (Didn't really play perandus). Unfortunately I know this company too well and held myself back because I've seen this before and I already knew how this was going to end. SO GLAD I did not pay anything out for this.

So that's my honest feedback, everything I want to do in this game STILL can't be done and I'm sure many fanboys will defend ggg to the death while playing their cyclone trickster/juggernaut CoC dischargers and elementalist flameblast witches. How many actual melee-damage-based builds made it to 100 so far this league? Oh that's right 0. Glacial hammer? Nope. VS? Not a chance. Dual strike? HEH. Double strike? Lol. Cleave? Sweep? heavy strike? And who even uses the melee trigger gems at all? For what purpose when blade vortex does everything they do a million times better? Meanwhile pretty much EVERY CASTER AND BOW GEM is still COMPLETELY VIABLE. WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE for you people to enable melee in POE? Well I guess we have earthquake so there's that.
Even the new "op 'melee' skills" like frost blades haven't even seen a LOOK by most people this league despite being pretty good in some circumstances. I don't know how this can be so hard for this company to understand. FIX THE MELEE BALANCE IN THE GAME ALREADY. GET RID OF LAB.

Bug Fixes:
People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it.

i have 0 uber lab attunements, entered 1 or 2, portaled out after corridors of fence lined next to each other with levers inside :D

Yeah, we were going between Walstreet simulator to Map Clears... now its Walstreet simulator vs Prince of persia meets soul reaver.

But dont bet your marbles on lab being decoupled from points.. GGG has its bogus statistic that everyone does the lab! Gee, i wonder why :D

For the first sentence i wouldnt be so sure, and im still optimistic that it WILL change.


For the second part, its truth that ALMOST EVERYONE does the labyrinth, even those who hate it swallow their pride and do it cause the acendancies are a must have for character creation/development. And i cant blame them they are truly build defining but if more people actually followed my example since perandus and DID NOT do the lab if they actually find it tedious, boring, stupid, alienating, unfun, not fit for poe, and other things like that then GGG would have taken action a long time ago. Doing it while you hate it just gives the wrong message to GGG and people in the community are part of the problem.

There are many ways to pass a message to GGG that they need to decouple the ascendancy points from the lab, one of them that specifically only send the message that you dislike the specific content besides the craazy amount of rewards gated behind it is DONT FUCKING RUN THE LAB.

You want the fucking lab to change right? then SHUT THE FUCK UP, MAN THE FUCK UP and DONT FUCKING DO THE LAB. Simply quitting poe doesnt pass the message that you quit because of the lab and the trials specifically, stopping spending money on PoE doesnt mean that you only did so because of the lab, b but playing poe AND NEVER DOING LAB passes exactly that message.

That specific message goes for everyone that does something while he does not agree/hate what he is doing (including you thread starter) and every one else who swallows his pride for this piece of shit only because the end rewards is so fucking OP.

I've done a couple of trials. There is one that killed me 6 times before I gave up. It's the burning floor, maze of fences, skeleton generator, switch hell. I made it far enough into that trial where I couldn't even make out what the open paths are and just blindly running along walls hoping to hit an opening before dying.
Whoever designed that... I honestly think they despise poe players and want them to quit. Maybe sick of their job? I don't know, but I can imagine it.

The number of players is so low these leagues. HC is basically muerto since day 7. I am not playing atm, and 2 out of i dont know how many chars this league have ascended... 1 3x one 2x... no uber done..

Died now 2 times in a row, in trial of swirling fear (lvl78) with a non-glasscanon char and also pretty fast movement speed.

So i'll second that and i think i'm also done for a very long time now, but not because of the difficulty since that alone wouldn't be a thing but more because of the draconian xp penalty since i don't think that i want to reinvest my free time to replay that again over and over.

Also thank god i didn't spent money on MTX or such since a very very very long time because that would make such situations really depressing.

I came to the same conclusions as Regulator.

I actually had one of my expert game player sons run the first lab for me to get the ascendancy points.

However, when the new patch hit with another lot of trashy traps and crap, I decided *not* to run it.

Of course I would like to have the extra points on my characters, but i'm not going to approve of GGG's decision to take their game in this direction by running another shitty lab!

I'm not going to pay someone to run it for me, not going to have one of my sons do it either.

Those who want to send a clear message to GGG. Don't run the lab.






I agree with you mates on the lab trials. I mean, I could live with the Izaro fights, the mechanic behind it is somewhat interesting (taking care not to buff him too much), although I do hear that in uber lab he is a oneshot machine:) :(

What I cannot, in any way, stomach (and believe me I have tried), are the traps... I absolutely hate them. Their mechanics and the layouts in which they appear, especially! in uber trials are just horrible, especially in a hc league and I think its pretty obvious that they (the traps) favour certain builds over others..

I was not happy when I saw the traps when they were first implemented and I'm even more frustrated now that uber trials are here:(
I've done a few to get the achiev but God!, I hate them so much.

I supported the game as best as I could one more time when Prophecy packs arrived, (although I didnt agree with the implementation of the lab) cause I love this game and I want to believe that the devs have the best interest of their players in mind, but I find myself playing less and less each day...:(

I really hope they give us something, another way to get Asc point without the horror that is the traps but I'm slowly starting to lose hope....:(

If GGG is really saying "people do the lab, so lab is sucessful", they are at failure. What they need to look for is, if people do the lap multiple times with the same character. That means, will someone do the lab again even after he has earned th AC points? If not, then this is a clear sign that people only do it for the AC points and then ignore it entirely. They can't say that people think the lab is fun when the players only play it once to get the AC points.
