[3.17] The Warchief | [Facebreaker] Ancestral Warchief | Uber Boss Farmer | Beginner -> Expert

Hi!

I have a question about Warchief link choices.
I play a flicker strike build and only use my Warchief totem as a support skill for tough bosses and rares. I don't have any specific Warchief support auras or anything and I'm currently netting 50 k DPS on the skill's tooltip.

I have a 5-link to use for the totem and I wonder about skill gem priorities. Would Faster Attacks be better than Melee Damage on Full Life? I don't really understand how MDoFL could be that good since the totem is bound to take damage fairly quickly in any scenario, whether it's vs. a fast-attacking boss or a mob of weak white monsters. Yet it seems to be a gem choice all Warchief builds are making.

Could you please point me in the most effective direction regarding 5-linking my Ancestral Warchief?

there is a gem priority list in my "detailed gear"-section, but thats especialy for this build using facebreaker, maybe with other "weapon" other skills are better
and MDoFL counts for your life, not for the totems.

Ahhh, if it's not the totem's life that counts, then I understand the choice of gem. Thanks for the quick reply!

@guggelhupf; what are your dps stats WITHOUT flasks; i suck at flasking so your numbers will never be the same as mine plus they are very expensive at the momment.. thanks!

so lets say both totems are active, i am between 105K and 190K- NO FLASKS but i am also using for some added fun (which isnt calculated in tooltip, of course)

Question: why use vaal lightning trap? You put there extra 50%dmg but I don't see how it works?

it pushs ur dmg x1,5 (50% More) thorugh "shock" and the mechanic is to put the trap under the feet from ur enemy. than it explodes and let a shocking ground behind for few secconds

Why do you guys use herald of ash - it doesn't seem very efficient to me.

For ME (let me know how it impacts your guys DPS as well to get more data points) - i only get an 11% increase in DPS by using hearald of ash. We also do not get any bonus from the overkill damage. Note I am only using a lvl 19 herald of ash with no quality so i do not yet have the 15% fire bonus, but I dont think that is huge.

Without herald of ash i have 125K DPS (with totem and auras in HO) and 140K DPS. Only 15K increase in DPS or 11%. I would expect more for such an investment. To use HOA it takes lvl 3 enlighten (2 gems slots), plus 4 passive points (to get to sovereignty).

I think instead of using those points, I may as well get a couple more jewel nodes or 20% life. Can even get the totem passives under scion. And those two gem slots are pretty huge - I can get shield charge + fortify with the two free slots for the 20% reduced damage + the movement speed which is huge (can even drop quicksilver flask and run another utility).

My calculations may be a bit skewed cuz i didn't yet fully update my build yet to run HOA - but i was quite disappointed with the increase in DPS by just turning on herald.

Let me know your guys thoughts and the % DPS increase you guys get from HOA and if you think its worth it.

Just started this league with the this build and currently at level 60. I have 660% facebreakers but am getting more dps with the 2h so I'll be using that until I get get some better rings/a decent shield with phys damage added on.



Doing ~8.5k dps now. Seems to be good for the time being but am having a difficult time finding items with physical damage added on to use my facebreakers
