Controlled Destruction

Why is controlled destruction supporting attack skill gems? This should not happen, this didn't happen before patch 2.3

Bug? Working as intended? Patch note stating such a thing?

Just tested with Lacerate and it also is supporting that attack skill as well. Spell echo with the exact same gem tags as Controlled Destruction doesn't support Blast Rain.
Why would you want to reduce your crit chance by 100% with no gain in damage? Attacks don't do spell damage so only the crit chance would apply.

Your not understanding what I'm saying. This is happening and it shouldn't happen, according to the skill gem tag system that is in place.
This is basically a CoC nerf in disguise. You can no longer support a spell with Controlled destruction unless you also want the underlying attack skill to lose crit chance.

Because we fixed it. Gem supportability in cases like this is determined by the ability to apply the penalty, not the bonus.

This gem was previously incorrectly restricted to spell gems, rather than damaging (and thus critting) gems. This was the cause of bugs with non-damaging spells, at least one of which was abusable to some degree. This was fixed by making the gem apply correctly in 2.3.0

I think I have found some more bugs that might need fixing along these lines; there are many support gems that choose what skills they can support based on the bonus, not the penalty. For example:

Ranged Attack Totem Support gives the following penalties:
(50 to 31)% less Damage
Attacks used by Totem have 30% less Attack Speed
Supported Attack Skills cannot be used with Melee Weapons

So, it should be able to support any attack skill that can deal damage. Instead, it can only support skills that can be used with a ranged weapon.
(I'm looking forward to Facebreaker cyclone totem! ;) )

Multistrike Support gives the following penalty:
30% less Attack Damage
So it should be able to support any damaging attack skill. However, it currently only supports melee skills. (This is abusable, just like Controlled destruction support. for example, you can link barrage - cast on critical strike support - summon raging spirit - multistrike support. The raging spirits will have multstrike, but barrage won't have less damage or the mana multiplier.)

Chain Support gives the following penalty:
(50 to 31)% less Damage

So it should be able to support any damaging skill. However, it currently only supports skills that can chain. (This is also abusable as above - eg: earthquake - COMK - arc - chain will apply the damage penalty only to arc.)

Bloodlust Support
Cluster Traps Support
Multiple Traps Support
Trap Support
Minefield Support
Remote Mine Support
Spell Echo Support.
