[2.6] The Curse Whisperer - Tri-Curse CI Whispering Ice Elementalist - Viable for Everything

just a little hint: the waterways boss is very dangerous for any firestorm or icestorm build. I just ripped on my lvl 91 char with 92% exp to that little fucker. he goes immune at random intervals and has frost thorns during that time (similar to shavronnes lightning thornes). the issue was that I mindlessly stacked as many icestorms onto him as possible. when he went into his immunty & thorns phase, all adds around him were already dead, he was immune to damage and thus not providing any leech, and the many ice shards hitting him from 6 or more stacked icestorms quickly killed me. could have logged out in time, but was too perplex to get it done in time.

with shavronne its usually no problem since she continues to take damage during her thorns phase, so that the thorns are easily outleeched. but this is not working on the waterways boss.
imho you should add this boss to the Q&A, he is, in my opinion, one of the most tricky ones for this build.
The guide has been updated with the latest changes. Pyre and Kraityn are in; Perandus, AoF and Faith and Steel are out. The power level is almost the same (slightly less ES, slightly more DPS), but all important things are achieved 3 levels earlier (the target level for 'full power' is lv 91 now), and the budget is lower.

Added a video for Twinned Plaza: never been to that map before, only seen a couple of other builds doing it and knew that the boss was curse immune. Facerolled it on the very first try.

There is a strat for that boss in the Scion version, but I didn't think it was anything special for the Witch. It gives you all the time in the world to kill it before it uses the Ice Thorns thing, so it really shouldn't even live long enough to see it.

It goes invulnerable but can still be leeched from. It reflects a part of the damage (probably about 20-25%) as COLD - that's the tricky part. AA doesn't work on that, so you need to bring a Sapphire flask if you want to be safe (although I haven't felt the need for it). And don't forget to Fortify and refresh Orb of Storms.

Penetration is the key when dealing with reflect. Your leech is based on the actual damage you do, with penetration. But reflected damage is calculated without penetration. The difference it makes for this build is huge. 38% from the FP gem + 25% from Mastermind = 63% extra damage that gives you leech but is not reflected!

I just went and did that boss. Ran around it forever until it finally froze solid and started reflecting, then popped the Sapphire flask, refreshed Orb, leaped onto it and destroyed it. My ES remained at 100% through that, so I think the flask wasn't even needed. You probably just forgot to refresh the Orb or Fortify.

I'll add it to the Q&A.

ETA: Bah, I guess when I moved the boss strats to the Q&A post, I copied the Witch section to the Scion, so it's gone from the Scion guide too. Oops! Sorry about that. Added it back, to both versions of the build.

ah, thats why I couldnt find it in the scion Q&A. ;)

However, various sources confirm that the waterways boss has frost thorns, not some sort of reflect. Now that I think of it, the map had 65% more life and 80% fire res as mods, thats prolly why I couldnt kill him in time. I still dont get why I couldnt outleech the reflected/thorned damage though...
could this build somehow run all 3 curses on blasphemy?

Nope not without messing up the build. You would need to stack all reduced mana nodes and extend to them. You are looking at 10-15 points if not more. You would also need a max level enlighten as well as taking off every other aura AA+Discipline.

The body armor is the single most expensive item now. The one I use in Prophecy I bought for 4ex. I started with a 625 ES 35 Int one for 30c, then gradually upgraded to better and better ones (732 ES 44 Int for 1.5ex, then another one in the mid-700 range and 48 Int for 3ex) until I found this one on poe.trade. I recommend upgrading like that, step by step.

It will do for this league, although it's far from 'really good' - that would be 800+ ES, 50+ Int and good resists. My Witch in Standard has one of those:

That cost 6ex, although back then WI was not quite as popular as today. :) But it's a reasonable target to obtain after some time.

And there is another category above 'really good', let's call it Godly. Stuff like this (on my Scion in Standard):

I have no idea how much that could sell for, there aren't many items like this in the game. You buy an item that has the top tier mods but lacks one mod, and then you YOLO exalt that and hope for good luck.

From my understanding, Thorns is a reflect (all types of hits) + conversion. Penetration definitely helps against it, same as any reflect. And Paragon reduces it by 50%. My Witch takes a LOT less damage from it than my Scion. The Scion can't outleech it, she has to stop casting, pop a flask, leap away and hit the adds if the mob lives long enough to use the Thorns. The Witch only needs to refresh the Orb and Fortify, may or may not need the flask, and can keep casting on it just fine.
if i'm planning on buying the chest first as my primary upgrade and only have around 3-4 ex to spend, which example would you go with?

700 ES
40 INT
1-2 low res rolls
Price: 3ex

or

750 ES
35 INT
1-2 medium res rolls
Price: 4ex

again, very rough examples. just trying to get a gauge for importance of stats before I buy one as this is my first CI character. I looked for a chest similar to the last one you posted but found nothing even close to it anywhere near the price range you say you paid, so im assuming you shopped around for a good deal?

EDIT: This is assuming I have maybe an EX a piece for the remaining Boots/Gloves
