What those gems *say* they do is transform bonuses from one type to another.

However, they actually do this by removing an amount equal first type, and adding on an equivalent amount of the second. So on a 5% life node, Energy from within changes it by giving the node -5% maximum life and +5% maximum energy shield.

If you have two gems overlapping on the one 5% life node, then they each do this. (Hooray for double-dipping). So each gem gives -5% life and +5% ES. The node has 5% life to start with, so overall it gives -5% life and +10% ES like you see in the screenshot.

100% reduced life is not supposed to be achievable. Apparently that area of the tree was compressed at some point.

There is currently no way to unbrick the character. I'll see if I can work something out in the future.
