[Suggestion] – An in-game Public Stash Tabs Trade System in Social Panel (illustrated with images)

As of 4/15/2016, here is the discussion I had on Reddit about the Public Stash Tabs Trade System.

Open to read answers to summarized feedback I received so far here and on Reddit

My reply to the feedback above: But that's the thing... We do not need (nor am I suggesting) an over-the-top in-game Trade System like an Auction House or what poe.trade offers with its tools. If players want to use the more advanced tools on poe.trade, that is their choice. All we need is an in-game Trade System sufficient enough to carry out what it's designed to do, and something like the Trade System I devised would be a lot more easier to implement. The idea here is to give players an 'option' to use the simpler (suggested) Trade System in-game or the more advanced easy-mode poe.trade system. Right now, there is no 'option', and the Public Parties Tab being used for trading is a complete mess.

"Feels more like a band-aid than a real solution to purely in-game trading system. Without being able to widely search, not just in a specific player's stash, for an item whether it is by name or properties, I fear it's just not gonna be used at all."

My reply to the feedback above: The real 'band-aid' is outsourcing the Trade System to poe.trade instead of addressing what's wrong in-game with trading, which is a complete mess of spam in the Public Parties Tab full of irrelevant listings.

My reply to the feedback above: Those points of view do not see the big picture here on why an even more complex Trade System like poe.trade or an Auction House will never be implemented in-game even more so than what I am suggesting for said reasons.

The whole idea in my OP was to create a developer-friendly Trade System that is a lot more simple to implement than an Auction House or a poe.trade system and that is also user-friendly, clean, fair and sufficient enough to carry out what it's designed for in its own Social Panel Tab that is not like poe.trade, and that is not like an Auction House.

If an Auction House or a poe.trade system was what I was going for, I would have very easily made mock-up images to reflect what those systems would like in PoE.

Therefore, the idea of an in-game Public Stash Tabs Trade System in the Social Panel is not a ‘beating around the bush’ form of an Auction House or even a poe.trade system for said reasons.

My reply to the feedback above: What I do not understand in feedback like 'tons of development time for nothing at all' is the lack of better words to explain exactly what is not useful. Your one-liner assessment is very barren, and it leads me to believe you did not read beyond the title of the OP.

Conclusively, what I am pushing for here at the very least (if more advanced tools are not implemented) is for the developers to implement a basic Trade Tab in the Social Panel to keep players out of the Public Parties Tab with trade-related content. It is becoming very annoying for the past 6-7 Leagues that is almost all I see in the Public Parties Tab vs. what the Public Parties Tab was designed for, which is to form parties.

As of me writing this, the idea of Stash Tabs made public only on poe.trade and not in a Trades Tab in the Social Panel as well is terrible, and while poe.trade also created a problem (talked about in the latest State of Exile Community Podcast - Featuring Chris Wilson at 17 mins, 27 sec) where it has become far too easy for anybody who knows about poe.trade to min/max out their gear than before we were able to publicly display Stash Tabs on poe.trade, there is no turning back now.

Therefore, why not implement the in-game Public Stash Tab System I proposed below as an addition to what we have with poe.trade's tools, that way, players can get DOUBLE the exposure when making their Stash Tabs public on poe.trade and in the Trades Tab in the Social Panel?

With those things in mind, here is how Path of Exile's Trade System can be fixed in-game:

1. Apply similar game code that enables Stash Tabs to be publicly displayed on poe.trade to a dedicated Trades Tab in the Social Panel as well, and then...

2. Implement an in-game Public Stash Tabs Trade System (like in the Spoilers below) that makes it easy for players to find the items they need in-game:

1. Only tabs players choose to display publicly (from their Personal Stash) will be displayed publicly when they (or other players) click the 'View Tabs' button in the 'Trades' Tab.

2. Players outside of Town or in Town will be able to display their publicly-made Stash Tabs (using the 'Public' button) and view their publicly-made Stash Tabs in the Trades Tab, yet they will not be able to remove items from or add items to those publicly-made Stash Tabs unless that player is by their Personal Stash in town.

3. Publicly-made Stash Tabs not made Public with the 'Public' button in the Trades Tab are grayed out.

For example regarding the above stated, in the event players make any tab in their Personal Stash public with the 'Public' button, their publicly-made Stash Tabs will not be made 100% public for everyone to 'View' in-game until they 'Post' a trade in the Trades Tab and push the 'Public' button in that window.

Note: The above stated just then does not apply when players make their Stash Tabs public on poe.trade since they are made public on there, anyway, when players push the 'Public' button.

4. The action of 'Posting' a Trade and 'Updating' a Trade are combined to perform the same function instead of split between two different buttons, and the ability to 'Search' a Trade can also be carried out in the same text box. Imagine that, one text box that can do 3 things.

The whole idea here is to make a direct and interactive in-game Trade System that works well and gives players double the exposure on poe.trade and in the Trades Tab when posting trades.


Open to see what happens next when clicking someone's 'View Tabs' button

It is like being in somebody else's Personal Stash where you can even use the search box to find items, except you cannot remove items from or add items to another player's publicly-made Stash Tabs, that and you can only view someone's publicly-made Stash Tabs.


Open to see what happens when a player's character below Level 25 opens the Trades Tab

You see? This is something new players would never know because the game does not explain this piece of crucial information. Implementing a Trades Tab like this for players under Level 25 will make players (especially very new players) WANT to play the game to hit Level 25+ just so they can get their hands on the items they see being listed they cannot get access to.

After all, as Izaro says in the Labyrinth, "Nothing is more enticing than a locked chest." or... something like that (I forget exactly how it is worded), but you get the idea.


...that which will then make players in-game engage with other players in trade in a more direct way vs. almost always relying on external sources like poe.trade to trade.

Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism
does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect.

While this is interesting idea and concept, i think if people wanted this we could skip all this beating around the bush and just implement auction houses, tho i personally would not like to see that.
But this is much better alternative then auction houses for sure.

Edit: I suggest you to put this on reddit poe for more and easier exposure and can get more people opinions about this topic, i personally rarely even look forums, today was just in mood, but i almost always only check reddit for poe news/discussions.

My point was that this is very similar to auction house in my eyes, just a little less convenient then a auction house, so my point was if people would want something like this implemented then they would probably want auction house implemented too, and if there was auction house, there would be no need for this.

I like system of how it is now, i even liked it before public stash (which i use and i think they are great and useful), but i liked system because it was you had to pick do you want to just play / grind or do you want to take time from that to set shop and spend time making currencies that way, so you had to pick do you want to let's say grind 80% time and spend 20% time on trading, or do you want to do 99% grinding and only 1% trading (but with little time spent on trading, you couldn't really do much, because it wasn't so convenient to do), now even with only public stash tabs it's so much easier to do both, this league i was only throwing things here and there in public stashes to sell and made a lot more then usual from trading (which before i spent more time on) and spent much less time on it. I think you should make effort in trading if you want a lot of profit from it, that's why i personally don't want to make things super easy, because then everyone can do both, there is no balancing between grinding and trading, which i really liked in this game.

Hope it works better with reddit, you should suggest every idea you have, i always like to see ideas and as many people opinions on it as possible, because after all we all want a better game and that's the best way to do it, also your idea is really good thought trough, i just wouldn't want it from reasons i said, but i would like to see what other people think about it and it's weird that no one is commenting anything about it, since it's really interesting/creative idea.

I like the idea of being able to right click a character portrait on the social panel and receive a "Public Stash" option on the displayed pop-up list; likewise, when standing in a town/world area, being able to right click another player's character and see "Public Stash" as an option. Maybe even right clicking a player's name in chat..

I think that adding multiple new buttons to the social panel could add clutter, and that adding a new trading panel is likely not necessary.

It would not be cluttery at all if GGG added a 'Trades Tab' in the Social Panel since everything in the 'Trades Tab' would all be in its own window just like the other tabs in the Social Panel. The fact that trade-related posts still to this day are posted in the 'Public Parties Tab' is itself clutter and creates a sense of irrelevanency vs. what the Public Parties Tab is really for, which is to form Parties.

That problem alone is a very good reason to add a Trades Tab in the Social Panel. How is that not a good idea?

Like I have already said, just adding a Trades Tab alone in the Social Panel without the other features to keep players from posting trade-related content in the Public Parties Tab (at the very least) is not a lot of development time.

they should add a trade tab, I am tired of scrolling through trade spam in Act 3/4 Merc to find an actual PUBLIC team.
