chris' post had "winning" in one of the first sentences, definitely suspicious of a first of april's fools joke.
but overall this isn't really new: advanced players already have the described analyzing tools at hand, trackpete's elastic search implementation which generates stats from poe.trade already provides info about most requested /traded uniques and rare stats on items over time or anything else on the market, so these players know what to buy/sell when on the market to to maximize profits. trackpete also posts these informations from time to time on poe reddit. poe.trade lets you set up live watches for certain offers from players. ergo: these tools (mayybe not butterfly spreads) are already online and because many tools used by players are outside the company's reach (community driven game design f.t.w.) they are more or less already in the game, ggg. for programmers it probably takes some hours to program such a currency live ticker from polling the poe.trade currency market database. --- one online browser game i played years ago (galaxy wars) already had such a currency market described above: one could put a trade request to into the market tool, the currency was locked until you withdrew your offer or the system found one matching offer from another player. this resulted in a always floating currency exchange rate, players had to modify their offer until they found a matching counter offer. of course the system was abused by organized players as well, with one group buying one type currency, which increased the price of that currency, then transfering the currrency to other players who put it up as a trade offer for the other currency. that was only possible because designers were unable (or unwilling) to slow down a fast shifting currency exchange rates by blocking trades for some time. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
