socket colours
trying to roll 3 different colours on some items is a friggin nightmare to do..
can we not have a universal socket on each item that will take any colour gem ?? |

it's because socket colours are biased to the base item type. for example chest items providing only Armour means they are STR based, and therefore will have a higher chance to roll red sockets, and low chance to roll green or blue.
therefore to get a RGB socket on this is tricky as you need to succeed on: 1 high chance to get red 1 very low chance to get green/blue 1 very low chance to get the opposing green/blue items with split base stats (eg. Armour + Evasion chest piece would be STR/DEX) should have an easier time in theory of creating a tri-colour socket roll. |

Anyone (designer or player) know the actual percentages to roll certain colors?
If I have a str chest what is the chance of rolling red? Green and blue? and does the chance change with the number of sockets? Etc. |

It's not impossible to get off-colors for an item. I've even gotten some GG on a B/R armor/ES item.

" not sure if they've listed the probabilities anywhere, but the chance for each slots colour ought to be independent. ie. the first socket being red should have no bearing on the next being red, however as the number of sockets increases the chance that they will _all_ be red drops quite significantly. you could make up some % and see what happens; for example lets assume the chance for an off colour socket is 10% (0.1) and for a STR item the chance to roll each colour might therefore be: Red (0.8) Green (0.1) Blue (0.1) let's assume you have a three socket item. the chance for RRR is then (0.8 * 0.8 * 0.8) = 0.512 for a tri-colour result there are 6 possible combinations that would satisfy, being RGB RBG BRG BGR GRB GBR, and each of these has the chance (0.8 * 0.1 * 0.1) = 0.008 the total chance of a tri-color result on this armour would then be 0.008 * 6 = 0.048 pretty slim, but still 5% might be worth the risk. now, if this was a STR/DEX item and we assume we still have an off colour chance of 10% (0.1) the numbers are quite different. the off colour chance is 0.1, but each base stat colour is now 0.45; chance for RRR (or GGG) = (0.45 * 0.45 * 0.45) = 0.091125 chance for tri-colour = (0.45 * 0.45 * 0.1) * 6 = 0.1215 so on a 3 socket item that has a hybrid base the chance has gone up to around 12%. which is now higher than the chance to roll a clean sweep of either red or green on that item. again, the numbers are made up but you can see how the base item can effect chances in general. as the number of sockets increases the chance of RGB in any of them increases also as many more combinations would satisfy the tri-colour requirement, however the chance for a clean sweep of a single colour diminishes quite a bit. |

" any combination of colours is possible. |

But the sockets are rolled independently which makes it much more remote.
Still going to poke out repeatedly the idea of a very very low chance of gaining a single white socket with chromatics (only maximum one in an item). Sockets can't roll white socket by drops or vendor, only a very rare roll. It's probably better than optionally using chromatics for single sockets or rolling all sockets. In such a situation where I could roll a single socket by burning 6 chromatics into a new super chromatic, I would. It could be 20, I would. 100 I probably would. " If it's very rare...what's the point?. To get RBBB on Alpha's Howl (a dex item), is nearly impossible, but if getting a white socket is also very rare, then what fundamentally is the difference? IGN: Kulde
