[2.2] "Stop! Hammertime" Perma Stun Slayer [PSC/PHC] Budget, Newbie Friendly, Tanky and Unique

Hello!

Since the revealing of Ascendancy classes, a sudden idea came to my mind - let's try a perma stun character once in my gamelife. Between all available choices, I decided to stick with Duelist Slayer class instead of some other dudes.

Gems:

Ground Slam
Ground Slam - Multistrike - Melee Physical Damage - Endurance Charge on Melee Stun - Faster Attacks\Added Fire Damage (i like to run FA with Marohi, because of low attack speed of the weapon)

Heavy Strike
Heavy strike - Melee Physical Damage - Stun - Faster Attacks - Added Fire Damage - Weapon Elemental Damage/Endurance Charge on Melee Stun

Mobility
Leap Slam - Faster Attacks - Fortify - Blood Magic

Auras
Hatred - Herald of Ash
Grace/Determination - AA (phys reflect maps [Grace if you're going Iron Reflexes])
Hatred - Warlord's Mark - Blasphemy

just pick one you like the most

CWDT setup

Cast When Damage Taken - Immortal Call - Warlord's Mark/Increased Duration - Blood Rage/Summon Flame Golem

Passives:

Ascendancy:

Spoiler
First two points - Headsman
3rd & 4th - Bane of Legends
5th & 6th - Overwhelm

Bandits:

Spoiler
Oak - Oak/Skill Point - Oak/Kraityn

It just depends on your playstyle. If you want to be more tanky - go for endurance charge, if you want more damage take Frenzy charge.

Levelling:

Spoiler
First of all, you should rush Resolute Technique keystone and grab life nodes on the way (if you're playing HC). You should pick around lvl 30. To this point level with whatever you want, but take Heavy Strike and Ground Slam and level it.

After RT, try to buy a unique mace called Geofri's Baptism. This weapon will carry you all the way up to late stages of Cruel difficulty, when you should look up for better base. In my case it was a Plated Maul which I self crafted by alching like two of them.

4L until lvl 38: GS - Faster Attacks - Melee Physical Damage - Added Fire Damage
After 48: GS - Multistrike - Melee Physical Damage - Endurance Charge on Melee Stun/Faster Attacks/Added Fire Damage (I'm playing HC, so ECoMS is a big boost for survi + it's easier to stun mobs, because of stun treshold on gem)

From RT to Cruel you should grab all life nodes you possibly can (Devotion, Scion life square, Marauder's Heart of the Warrior) plus two nodes with mace damage called Skull Cracking and Bone Breaker. Don't take Mace Damage and Attack speed nodes right of Bone Breaker, tho. Instead, travel through Mace and Damage and Reduced Enemy Stun Treshold. If you want to, you can pick up the Stun Mastery passives next to Bloodless life wheel.

After that, grab AoE nodes from Templar tree, Butchery and Art of the Gladiator.
If you have mana issues, feel free to take Mana Flows passives in Duelist starting area.
At this stage, you should be in Merciless. Right now everything depends on your survivability and damage.
In my case, I grabbed all endurance charge nodes + Devotion life cluster, Tireless life cluster, Frenzy charge in Duelist area and started to spec into Wrecking Ball/Executioner 2H dmg cluster.
In A3 Merciless, if you have some hard cash you can aquire Marohi Erqi, but if you don't you want to look for Collossus Mallet base for crafting. I've bought 5linked one for a chaos, rolled Cruel prefix, regal it, added Vagan phys mod and I've got something like this:

It's just decent, but this mace carried me to maps when I've crafted my actual mace with alch spamming.

As 5th link you can choose between Faster Attacks and Added Fire Damage (depends on weapon and personal preference) and 6th will be the one left

Stun:

Spoiler
By a PoE Wiki:

"The chance to stun is based off the damage done in a single hit compared to the target's maximum life. The default length of stuns is 350ms.
The duration of stuns can be altered by increased Block and Stun Recovery, increased Stun Duration on enemies, increased Stun Duration with Two Handed Melee Weapons on enemies and similar modifiers.

Whether or not a stun occurs can be calculated using the following formula":

Spoiler
stun_chance [%] = 200 * damage / defender_effective_max_life

But after that we have other thing called Stun Threshold

"Reduced stun threshold modifiers reduce the value of defender_effective_max_life. For example, 25% reduced Enemy Stun Threshold means the enemy will be treated as if their defender_effective_max_life is only 75% as much as it actually is, increasing the chance that the enemy will be stunned.

When the total Stun Threshold Reduction would be over 75%, it is instead treated as being":

Spoiler
75 + ( Stun Threshold Reduction - 75) * 25 / ( Stun Threshold Reduction -50 )

TL;DR: You can stun almost everything in the game (unless it has too much hp or Unwavering mod. It all depends on your damage and reducing enemy stun threshold.

The most interesting fact although is stunnig in a party, because stun doesn't take increased life pool of mobs into consideration, so you will stun mobs in a 6-man party, as long as you can stun them alone.

Useful Uniques:

Very good item to level with. It has a lot of dmg, stun duration and it's quite cheap

BIS weapon to start mapping - if you have one you won't change it until you can afford a 500-600 DPS Coronal/Terror Maul. Increased AoE gem is a free 6L and it will help stunning bigger packs.

(don't look at gems in it - it's linked from my other toon)

Best in slot chest option. Great survivability and damage mitigation for late game. You'll have some problems with capping lightning resist tho.

Decent armour, big life pool boost

I'll try to keep this guide up to date, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Heya, just one quick question :

Do you run a mana flask to sustain groundslam? Since I see no mana leech/blood magic and only a little bit of mana regen, I kinda wondered if it would be possible to run it without the mana flask.

Thanks,

Xan

I'm using Warlod's Mark on CWDT setup for life and mana leech. for now it was just enough + one of my party members is using the same curse :P
You can always grab some mana leech on rings/gloves - 0,3-0,4 should be totally enough, because of the low ground slam costs.
FYI, I've ripped at 84 (this build is a one tanky mofo, but can't deal with a human stupidity :P ) and right now I'm rerolling as the guide follows.
I've got an absolutely insane stun belt in PSC if you're interested

Your belt is worth nothing.

It's a good example for stats you're looking for tho.

I've repaired the full level skill tree, so it should be alright now.
Hey there, I had the exact same idea and made a similar build in PSC as first character to play together with my girlfriend who plays pohx icetrapper(we're currently only around lvl 40ish, though). I'll check out your guide when home from work. Do you think it's better to prioritize damage and stun duration over attack speed or do they reach a "sweet spot" on where the mix of both permastuns most effectively?

Also kudos for the Kung Fury quote :D

Well, stunning is all about threshold + dmg, so, at around 40, you can spec into Stun Mastery node, take Baptism with a Ground Slam and start to do some serious business :)

Attack speed will come with Frenzy charges and Wreckin ball and Multistrike with Faster attacks later on in the game.
