100 is definitely do-able even if you miss the majority of the races. Around 20 of them should get you there, if the points structure is like in the past. The minimum number of points is almost always manageable without stress or extreme pressure. The tricky part is sometimes knowing when and where to stop, instead of pushing too hard for the next points bracket and then losing it all. :)
Some of that was remedied last race season. Points were awarded even if a character died. Perhaps the same idea will be employed this time around? :)

You should look again on what items you can craft those mods.
The 12-16% crit chance are only for rings. That's also the only way how to get crit chance on a ring, other than as a implicit mod.
The price difference makes perfect sense
