Shadows and visibility in caves

So... for some reason, if i enable shadows, any quality other than OFF, caves get super dark, i can't see anything, well, it's not completly black, i can see some stuff but not nearly enough to go through it without the map.

Outside caves it's great, actually, outside it's the other way around, if i disable shadows the game is too bright.

I'm using latest drivers on a intel hd 530, performance is just fine, on or off, it's just the amount of darkness, it's like light radius goes to 0 and then some.

Here are the pics:

Inside Cave Entrance Shadows Off

Some weird stuff, right?

Run dxdiag, save all information, then post it in Spoiler tags. What kind of cord do use to connect your monitor?

Any part of the dxdiag that interests you? It doesn't really all fit in the post, too many characters.

ATM i'm using a VGA cable, would the type of connection really be able to cause this?

Oh and sorry for the delayed reply :) tks for your help
If it doesn't fit, use a pastebin link and URL tag it here (so it is clickable).

The type of cable makes a huge difference... especially as you consider the different types of video connectors and how much data bandwidth they support. VGA is different than S-Video or DVI or HDMI. They each have a different level of resolution and data support.

Does it look like a VGA:

DVI:

HDMI:

Sure, i know different cables have different bandwidths but, if a monitor comes with a cable (whatever it is) then i highly doubt that it isn't enough to support the resolution it can run at.
So my question still holds.
I'm not doubting that it may make a difference, i just wanted to learn why it does.

I said i'm using VGA in my previous comment. I'm waiting on a new monitor because mine died and i had this older one 1440x900, only has a VGA connector.

I'm aware of what you said, but you have to remember that I don't know you, your experience level, or anything else other than what you posted.

From extensive previous experience, a lot of people call every monitor connection a "VGA" connection... so we have to explicitly ask and ensure that when you said VGA you meant VGA.

If we had your monitor information from the DxDiag, then we wouldn't need to know whether you were answering properly or not.

As for the other parts of your question, the type of cable can greatly impact video performance.. both in resolutions and colors. The quality of the cable can also make a difference, but that's usually less of an issue.

After reviewing a couple of your images however, I see that the problem is likely not monitor related since the monitor isn't responsible for saving the screenshot unless you took a picture of the monitor with your phone or other external camera and posted that instead.

It would have been better had you put IMG or URL tags on your links to make then clickable. I (and many other) users often browse on Mobile devices where copy/paste is quite difficult and cumbersome. I completely ignored your images since they weren't clickable. My apologies for skipping them, but you should really link them.

I'd even recommend going back and adding URL or IMG tags to each to prevent anyone else from skipping them as I did.

Still.. we really need the DxDiag output. Pastebin link it.
I posted the DXDIAG, but looking at the time-stamps you were probably writing so you missed it :)

Anyway, completely understand why you said it, thanks for your help.

edit:. oh, about the images, sorry for them not being clickable, completely forgot to do that when i originally posted, it's done now :)

I can't tell if these are installed or not, but have you attempted to install these drivers?
Yes, those are the ones i have.

This PC is a new build, so far i've used 3 of those drivers, the latest 3, and all of them had the problem. I always updated thinking it could fix the problem but never did.

btw, i've already tried every combination of in-game and driver 3D settings (there isn't a lot on Intel GPUs) and the problem is always there.

Have you tried deleting the shadercache folder?
