[2.2.0] Voltaxic Poisonous Quills [End Game Mapping Build]

Is it intended that the shadow tree doesn't take the duelist leech nodes?
Hey,

Was looking for a new build for the tailsmen league and haven't played since version 1.3

This build really interests me for a number of reasons but I was wondering what would be the best way to build it out. As I'll be starting a new league I will have 0 items or currency to help start me out or power level me to 60-80.

With that in mind should I use the budget gear ranger passive tree until I get higher and use a standard bow until then? Or what would be the best way to level this? I know in the forums you said you used a trapper then repseced is that still the best way? Or can you do it with the ranger budget gear you listed?

Just curious if there is a way to level this up and grind currency with this until I can buy all the pieces to make it work.

Any help is always appreciated.

Cheers

How would this workout in HC?

Yes, they are not needed. Leech from Blood Rage, The Retch and Passive near Shadow give us constant 2% Life Leech. Flasks are up almost all the time, so we have HUGE instant leech.

I would not build this a a first build simply because it needs Voltaxic and 5L is almost mandatory for higher damage. Also getting 5 corrupted pieces can be tricky if you have 0 budget, and Vessel of Vinktar is not cheap either.

I would recommend trappers since it is in the Shadow area, and is super potent with no gear whatsoever. You can build Bladefall, Lightning Trap, Firestorm Multitrap, Fire Trap, whatever you want really. Then farm Dried Lake untill lvl 80 or so, this should net you a large amount of Alts-Jewlerers-Fuses which you could cash up for Voltaxic and other items.

If you really want to level as an Archer, pick Storm Cloud and build Budget Ranger. Buy some cheap 5L Evasion Chest and throw alch on it, when looking to buy gear, search for Corrupted already.

I am not sure, never really played HC in POE. But I haven't died since lvl 91 (almost 94 atm), once I was fully geared. 4100 life seems low, but I have enough evasion, dodge and spell dodge, Coil helps immensely against physical and leech is enormous. However I rambo all of the bosses, so it may not be ideal for a HC player.

And I have leveled as a trapper, Fire Trap, Firestorm Multitrap and Lightning Trap combination.

so after the reddit analyzation of the retch do you think a rare wed/life/res belt would be better?

in case you missed it: the leech actually only applies in pve to the actual amount you leeched therefore almost nothing all it gives now is life some coldres and leech.

Yes.

https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/3yvcqi/the_retch_chaos_damage_and_some_other_details/

here is a quote from that thread:

"EDIT 3: This is probably the most important point, and the one I originally wanted to test before the Life damage caught my attention. The amount of secondary damage depends on the amount of Life you actually leech; that is to say, if I'm only missing a bit of hp and I instantly leech a ton, the secondary damage is calculated only based on the amount of hp I'm missing. This is evident when I test with Acuity in the video.

So in PvE, the interaction with Vinktar's is not actually "60% More lightning damage" as one might expect, since (unlike in the PvP video) you pretty much leech to full immediately. It should barely do anything. RIP. Maybe it will work with the Ascendancy node that preserves leech effects at full life, but who knows."

I saw it this morning, will update my video and provide a bit more details to the guide when I come home in several days, I am currently on a PC that takes 10min just to quote you :)

I was really surprised about that tbh, because my damage was so huge with it. But the problem is, it seems that it was Vessel of Vinktar damage plus the monsters were always shocked. However, I think The Retch is still the best choice for a belt. Life and Cold res is top tier, leech is converted to chaos and 60% flask duration is much bigger then it seems. It promotes good positioning and give you enough time to wait for a perfect moment to burst bosses.

But if you manage to get 80 life, 2res, ele dmg with weapons and 20% flask duration (or whatever the highest number is), go for it. It is going to top The Retch most likely.

i managed to get this one today. i think another plusside of a rarebelt is that you get way more flexible with the other gear.

will test out further how it plays cause 11sec quicksilver is just too good atm :D
I was going to try the retch but my resists have been preventing me from doing that.

I'm actually running lightning doryani, which after hearing about the 200% being of the actual leeched hp, think is superior to the retch, mainly because of the resists. The flask duration on the retch is still valuable, but I don't think I can gain the missing resists easily (or at all)

As pointed out in the con section, changing gear is pretty hard with this build after having settled on one working set. If anyone can spare some time to look at my character (MagataaShiki) I'd like to try the retch, but I will be losing the str from the doryani (31) very problematic as well as a lot of resists.

As is though, I'm running Split arrow with 1x Hungry abyss and 2x static electricity and am getting similar tooltip numbers as the barrage. My easiest to upgrade piece is probably the boot and I havn't been able to find a replacement for teh amulet, which is quite good, but is still missing a lot of desirable stats.
