So which aspects of the game are now taboo for discussion?

We obviously can't discuss the UI anymore. What else is a no-go? Perhaps you could compile a list so we don't end up with countless threads that you'll just have to lock anyway.

Some obligatory taboos are normal in non-symetric relations like GGG-players. That's boring a little. I thought there are some juicy tabooos in community...

Probably my fault, Bars, I made a comment negatively referencing the mental abilities/development of people who attach any level of importance to the UI change outside of whether it meets the thematic nature of the game.

Potentially, my comment could be seen as an invitation to continue some of the more mouth-breathing aspects of the original thread, and thus create a discourse that descends into negativity.

My apologies.

The thing is, that's just another demonstration of the problem I'm talking about: this chronic padlocking of threads due to trolling and unconstructive discussion does not fight the trolls, it empowers them. For some reason, you disliked the thread, you posted one mildly provocative post in it and it immediately ate the padlock. What's the message here? "Great, if I don't like a thread, I can easily derail it".

However, I don't think that's what happened here. I think someone in GGG's forum department said "fuck this, let's kill the UI discussion because I hate it".

Which also sucks. I honestly can't find a single scenario and explanation which can't be summarised with "it sucks".
You have to be realistic about these things.

Ah, we're coming more closely to the crux of the matter :)

Active vs Reactive vs Interactive moderation.

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.

It's mostly about moderation. But it's also, on a lesser degree, about the interface. Shouldn't a game's interface be liked by the majority of players playing it? When I make a poll about it and 12 out of 14 voters say they preferred the old interface, doesn't that tell us something?

And why the fuck would GGG want to close it instead of collecting valuable information about their player base? Most companies would fucking kill to get as much statistical data about their users as possible, GGG gets it handed on a silver platter and locks it.

I am honestly confused.
You have to be realistic about these things.

Yes, it was an amazing experience. I'm reminded of the movie Le Libertin where Diderot was struggling with the articles on moral and ethics in his Encyclopedie, so in the end he wrote, "moral: see ethics" and "ethics: see moral".
You have to be realistic about these things.

The problem is that we're playing the Forum Meta-Game, but we don't know what kind of Map Mods have been rolled, and they seem to change every few hours/days/weeks.

Personally, I don't like running maps UNIDed, because I never quite know when my build is going to get 1-shot.

The thing is, Bars's thread was in no way new, or even constructive :

This whole "which UI do you like better?" thing has been discussed through and through in the globe girls thread.
Also, such a poll is biased and misleading : people wanting to return to the old UI are much more likely to answer it than people that like the new one more.

When Bars made his thread, right after the other ones were locked, it was just a way of trying to circumvent the moderation that had been made.

And I'd guess they are pushing on the "Moderation is oppressive" concept so that they can still manage to get the prior message through : "Give us our globe girls back".

Correct.

The HUD was changed to be thematically appropriate to Act 4, and the Awakening expansion as a whole. There's no compelling reason to change it back while that is the case, though they may change in future should the need arise.

In either case, reverting to the pre-2.0 HUD is unlikely.

The feedback on those threads has long since been seen, and the threads themselves have not generated original discussion in a very long time, so there is no value in keeping them open.

Yes, it tells us that only people who actually give a shit about the subject are going to read your thread at all, let alone take the time to vote in some meaningless "poll". The ones who are happy with things the way they are or the ones who are completely sick of people whining over and over about the same meaningless topics that have been discussed to death already, probably won't. Not to mention that the vast majority of players probably never even read the forums to begin with.

One thing you can't overlook:

I bet Rachel's finger twitched though. <3

Rachel knows I care deeply about POE and have only its best interest in mind.
