[2.0.3] Blackdepp's 2H Mace AoE Marauder (easy, cheap, strong)

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm Blackdepp and this is the guide for ma 2H Mace AoE Marauder.
What's meant by that you ask? Well with this build you can use almost every melee aoe skill. This includes:

- Ground Slam
- Sweep
- Static Strike
- Infernal Blow
- Ice Crash

This build is super strong with very low investment. It suites the start of new leagues, new players who are not so familiar with the game and those who simply want to play an aoe melee build. Besides its raw power this character has very high defense. It is capable to run endgame maps quite safely and is super fun. Let's get started:

SKILLTREE

Base Skilltree (101 points)

From here on you can pick the points you like to make your build best suited for you. Never the less here are some recommendations:
- Rampart (when you use fortify)
- Skull Cracking (more dps and stun)
- Unwavering Stance (stun immunity for little less evasion)
- Jewel Socket (duelist area; maybe malicious intent as a unique jewel)
- Melee Damage Node (marauder starting area)
- Devotion + Endurance (templar area; maybe considerable for HC chars)

Especially for the elemental build:
- Revelry (because the elemental damage versions leech less mana)
- Catalyse (more elemental weapon damage)
- Lave Lash (for infernal blow)

I don't have a leveling guide or leveling skilltrees for this build but my general advice for you is to get Resolut Technique as soon as possible and after that the AOE nodes in the templar area for a good boost to your range. After that you can simply pick whatever you want to pick; there's not much to do wrong with this build.

GEAR

Rare Items

Mace:

Needed:
- Increased Physical Damage
- Added Physical Damage
- Attack Speed

Nice to have:
- Strength
- Leech
- Stun
- Increased/Added Elemental Damage

(best base would be a coronal maul because of the increased aoe; a marohi erqi is also a viable option, Kongor's Undying Rage is also a nice option)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Rings:

Needed:
- Life
- Elemental Resistances
- Added Physical Damage

Nice to have:
- Attributes (so that you don't have to pick any on the passive)
- Leech
- Mana Regeneration (especially for the elemental versions)

_______________________________________________________________________________

Amulet:

Needed:
- Life
- Elemental Resistances
- Added Physical Damage

Nice to have:
- Attributes (so that you don't have to pick any on the passive)
- Leech
- Mana Regeneration (especially for the elemental versions)

_______________________________________________________________________________

Belt:

Nedded:
- Life
- Elemental Resistances

Nice to have:
- Added Armour
- Strength
- Increased Elemental Damage
- Flask Charg Stuff

(bases: leather belt, heavy belt, rustic sash)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Helmet:

Needed:
- Life
- Elemental Resistances

Nice to have:
- Increased Armour
- Added Armour
- Attributes (so that you don't have to pick any on the passive)

(best base would be a eternal burgonet)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Boots:

Needed:
- Life
- Elemental Resistances

Nice to have:
- Increased Armour
- Added Armour
- Movement Speed (very handy)

(best base would be titan greaves)

Unique Items

Gloves:

Slitherpinch takes care of sustaining mana and leeches a little life too. It gives us a lot of DEX and little attack speed, though it has low armor. If you have mana/life leech on jewelry you can use good rare gloves with life, resistnaces and armour, but this is the cheapest way to go.
_______________________________________________________________________________

Chest:

A Belly Of The Beast is the best body armour for this build, because of the huge life boost we get from it, but you can also run a good rare chest plate.

Flasks

This build runs 3 life flasks. Bubbling or Seething are good mods.

For the utility flasks you have a few options:
- Granite Flask (defense)
- Quicksilver Flask (positioning and movement)
- Atziri's Promise (dps & leech)
- Doedre's Elixir (to keep up the charges)
- Taste of Hate (dps)
- Rumi's Concoction (defense)

Remind yourself that you need at least one flask each that:
- Removes Bleeding
- Removes Freeze
- Removes Curses
- Removes Shock

Jewels

This build has allocated at least one jewel socket in its passive skill tree. Therefor you need to know what jewels fit this build. Aim for stats like...
- Increased Physical Damage
- Attack Speed
- Increased Area Damage
- Increased Maximum Life

... and so on.

Mandatory Links:

Possible Links:

_______________________________________________________________________________

Blood Rage + Enduring Cry + Enfeeble:

Linked to:

(all three gems are supported with increased duration, so that you will regen your life a little longer and you don't have to cast enfeeble and blood rage all over and over; enfeeble is meant for dangerous bosses; keep in mind not to leap on them, if you use the leap curse setup)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Leap Slam:

Linked to:

(whenever you leap on an enemy it will apply the warlords mark curse; this is meant to be used in maps which are not super dangerous to keep your charges up; for more dangerous maps you should stay in a safe distance and cast endring cry; you can also put fortify and endurance charge on melee stun in this setup)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Flame Golem + Cast When Damage Taken

Linked to:

(every time you take a certain ammount of damage your molten shell will be casted, providing you with some extra armour and your flame golem will be resummoned; both are supported with life leech, so that when molten shell breaks it leeches some life and the golem can keep itself alive a little longer; once you have a second 5L phaserun can be added to this setup)
_______________________________________________________________________________

Auras:

Choose what you like better:

Linked to (not mandatory):

(hatred and herald of ash give you additional elemental damage, based on your physical damage; arctic armour adds more survivability; a very low level clarity helps with mana)
_______________________________________________________________________________

If you want to ensure even higher single target damage just switch some gems around and put in a Heavy Strike or Molten Strike as single target skills. You can for example leave out the Warlords Mark and Curse On Hit and cast Enduring Cry manually to free two gem slots. Another option is the whole Cast When Damage Taken setup. For me it always worked great without a second single target skill but find what suits your playstyle best.

BANDITS

Normal: Help Oak (flat life)

Cruel: Help Kraityn/Oak (attack speed/physical damage)

Merciless: Help Oak (endurance charge)

STATS

The following stats are from my Lv. 89 Sweep Marauder.
DPS

Buffs up / 5L

Defense

only 5 Endurance Charges (old character)

Life, Attributes

I've rerolled this character in the one month league without a belly and reached 5,7k life

To sum up the physical mitigation, because some of you had concerns about it being enough:
- 5-6k Armour (~35% at Lv. 90)
- 6 Endurance Charges (24%)
- Soul Of Steel Passive (4%)
- Arctic Armour (13%)
--> 76% (+Fortify)

Big thanks for the builds, man.

Always loved the simple, brutal way of just smashing the shit out of things. No gimmicks, no weird strategies, no bullshit.

Just straight-up physical destruction.

I plan on returning to PoE in about a month. This'll be the build I take on my Marauder. Hoping to get more feedback from others who use it as well.
Thank you two :b You make me really happy (:

Tbh I consider this to be the most fun build I ever created. + it is super firm and can adjust itself to various situations in a blink of an eye (:

Hello !

I've used Ground Slam pre 2.0 and want to change.

Which one the 4 alternative do you prefer ?

Cheers !

Hey,
I like Sweep the most, because the leap-curse combo works best with this skill imo.

Hey, i have a question here and cant find the answer. Why all sweep build using 2h mace and not other weapons?

There might be an other reason behind that but with maces you can get:
- 6% aoe on the weapon
- 4% mace aoe frome the tree
and imo it is the easiest way to build around regarding the passive points.

Thanks for build/guide. It would be great if you could add what auras you are running with. Thanks in advance.

Ah, you did, my bad, sorry :)
