Was this patch supposed to be fun?

Or, you know, they could actually fix evasion so it works properly. Even if I took your advice, where am I supposed to get this +life gear? From advancing through the story? Remember, it's a level 57 character that isn't even finished with Cruel yet. If the idea is to advance the difficulty with the level of the character in mind, the devs failed horribly.

I get that the hardcore players will say I'm a noob with noob gear and with noob builds. Guess what? I'm a casual player. I'm in my 40s and have a full time job. If the devs want to keep players like me, they'd better rethink act 4 and quick.

What difference does it make where you are in the game? Id some blue items. If you're suggesting that you should be able to progress without thinking about what gear you have on, you're sorely mistaken.

While I will agree this isn't the patch to play melee EV with the leech change, you're a duelist, grab IR. Will make a huge difference. Further, arepeat you using endurance charges as well?
I'm having fun.

PoE is a game where you can avoid 95% of the bullshit they throw in your face if you play a ranged build, and you can bypass the remaining 5% (which is reflect) by playing totem/trap build.

Seems like every difficulty increase they implement mostly or only punish melee builds, this trend is going ages ago, and seems like they are happy with it.

Happy with the fact i feel myself like a glass cannon with my 4600 hp melee with capped res+fortify, and facerolling any map with any mods with dual totem 1900 hp uncapped res.

Because i can manually avoid shit, and i must not deal with the reflect shit.

I mean other than the shotgun change, Fortify, Armor getting better, Lockstep allowing for reliable movement skills for melee, multipliers on melee gems, Duelist tree getting much better, you're right.

Noblesse oblige
The best patch I have seen in a while. Don't try to force your old builds through this, adjust to the meta.
As for damage in act 4 and late maps, I finally have a reason to get 50k armour without a granite besides tanking vaal for fun. ;)
Perception is reality.
I hear ya, OP. Seems as if I must now quit PoE, since I can't get past cruel Piety Abomination, and can't see a way that I'll ever be able to do it, regardless of spec. Since you can't do damage while running madly in a circle, the room inevitably fills up with worms, meaning that sooner or later, there's nowhere left to run. And since run is all you can do, it's checkmate.

I've watched some vids of people doing that fight and winning, so it can obviously be done, but when I watch the vids, I don't understand what I'm seeing. It looks like what what was said when the Union broke what should have been an impenetrable position on the ridge at Chattanooga: "a visible interposition of God." Despite having been able to do some difficult content, Poorjoy's Asylum, for instance, I just can't perform with the millisecond micrometer perfection that fight demands.

Ah well, it was once a fun game.

Evasion is working as intended, it's just that you need to use it in combination with Dodge, Fortify, Arctic Armour, and/or Endurance Charges. As for +life gear, you're expected to trade for it, best place to go shopping is here:

http://poe.trade/

The best approach to gearing I've found is to first select a core set of Uniques needed to pull off a particular build. For chests, trade for one that's already 5-linked, otherwise buy the cheapest Uniques you can find. Once you make it to Merciless, you can determine what support items you'll need to flesh out your build.

To get a feel for what you should aim for, check out the level 80+ characters in my profile. None of the Uniques used in these builds cost more that 5 Exalts (at the time I got them). The level-82 Duelist is dual-wield and has the minimum HP needed to handle Merciless Act 4 (around 3.7K). There's also a level-58 Scion that is overgeared for Merciless Act 1, but not for Cruel Act 4. She will be getting upgraded to Belly of the Beast and Abyssus at level-60.

Yeah walking in a circle is hard for some.

Seriously tho get another PPAD on your Tornado Shot should be using GMP too and remove Added Cold for Point Blank on your Puncture. Just get in close to her and when the lazer comes go in a circle you can actually make it so you have some time and shoot off your Puncture. Then use Tornado Shot to kill the nests that summon the worm like dudes and you will be good.

What if Piety is stuck next to a wall? Leap Slam would be the only way to avoid the laser.

Congratulation on not getting the whole point the guy tried to make.
Purchasing a 5L to get through Cruel, what a fucking joke man.

Evasion working as intended, you just need to overkill survival on the side because it's unreliable and the keystones have been gutted so hard, instead of just reducing the evasion% you get from gear and such.
Is this supposed to be some kind of bad joke?

I have heard Whirling Blades works as well but I have never had Piety next to a wall. Even used Heavy Strike with knockback and she died by the time she got to the wall so was never able to fire the laser.
