Ok, can we discuss why this exists?
What possible use it could have?

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, wouldn't it be a Merry Christmas?

I'm actually hoping that these have hidden mods to them, like Chris's ring did. Or maybe a cool vendor recipe... like vendor all three and get something cool.

Not a bad theory!

Just like terrible vaal rolls for items, perhaps these are the equivalent for jewels.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.
I always thought it was pretty obvious why these exist. It's another way to brick your jewel when you try to corrupt it. Just like normal vaaling has the chance to brick your stuff into a crappy rare, these can turn into really really bad uniques too.
It's an extra way to screw players with RNG, what else is new?
Why am I wearing a heavy belt if I haven't got any pants?

Those bricked rares just had shit mods. They weren't literally negative for your toon.

If you're a crit discharger in a reflect map, you have no fire res, and there's a conduit support or Ambu's in your team generating ECs, you obviously load up on a handful of these before the map.

hur dur.

Also, when you're using Snakebite, you can equip two Pacifisms (-2 max frenzy) so 1 frenzy charge = instapoison.

Obviousleeeeeeeeee.

It's there to remind everyone that bad items are part of balance.
In order for good items to be good there is need for bad items to exist.

In this case - it is failed corruption result.
I believe Chris stated that some jewels are bad on purpose. The purpose, however, was not revealed.
bump with corrupted jewel adding damage while dead.....?>?
