Act 4 Normal Sucks and Is Way Too Hard
You just have to have the right build I believe.

"You mean 4-titted biach? Nowadays she's nothing to be scared of, damn even I dropped her ez in this league. Selffound with nowhere-near-godlike build and gears (4-link main skill lol, because no luck in trying to 5l). Also, her gear isn't "end-game" nowadays. Uber drops, maybe, but not normal. And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

As someone who just got back into this game after not playing it since 1.2, I'm just checking in here to say that I've just died three times in HCP trying to get through act 4 normal thanks to getting instagibbed by bosses. I feel your pain.
I'm sure some of it is to do with learning boss mechanics but there is also an significant element of ridiculous burst. |

Aside from their sheer overtuned damage, I also want to point out the fact that almost every major boss in Act 4 is an area-denial machine. Voll is the only one that is not. The others? Shit is either just pouring over the screen as a passive effect, or 90% of the screen is covered in harmful aoes. Or in Malachi's case, all of the above. It gets to a point that my brain just subconsciously turns off, and I start mindlessly zerging the boss because I can't be arsed to care about all this shit happening. There is a threshold to how much the human mind can comprehend before it just gives up.
And no, I don't give a fuck if you're a special snowflake who can totally thread the needle through Kaom's fireballs while masturbating to how awesome you think you are. This is a buff™

Huh?
I fought through Act 4 normal in THC with Frost Blade Dodge/Evasion Crit-Dagger Dual-wield Ranger after once ripping my Ice-Shot Ranger to malformed Piety (panicked when her beam became faster, but it was a 3-hit and my on fault for running back and forth in the beam). And i fully expected this build to die, just made it for fun of shattering... Was one of the greatest gaming experiences in 28+ years of gaming. So intense and fun, pure joy! :D |

Malachai's fight is basically "stand in the 5% of the floor given to you and move when free space occurs", which I think is just a clumsy way to do a fight.
My brother and I leveled together, and merciless malachai was a corpse run party (we're not hardcore, obviously). I understand having mechanics to avoid, but having 4-5 abilities being spammed is simply a mess disguised under 'being difficult'. Obviously there are ways to do it properly, as many people do so, but I agree with the fact that A4 is a bit crazy for new and returning players who don't have things completely planned out. Meh, not like I'm too invested into A4's status. I'm taking a break from PoE until I get a better computer/internet, since I've lost my zana daily, and died once due to DC/lag. That's another topic, though, and not a statement of disliking PoE. It's bloody frustrating, but still a satisfying game. |

To further the discussion, it is significant that in normal Act 4 is the only place I've seen people advertising that they will get you through the bosses with their level 80 toon for 1-2 chaos. "100% guaranteed safe" what a laugh.

" That's not true. The secret is not avoiding all the damage, it's being selective about what not to take at any given moment. Also, if you kill ads you can have few seconds of safety in some spot to recover in the second stage. Attack Malachai while he casts summon tentacle. Act IV teaches you to choose the lesser evil (think Piety and her giant energy spheres, it's preferable to eat the laser beam). Add a Forsaken Masters questline

" Are you even listening to yourself? In what universe is it good game design to force the player into a "get hit or get hit harder" scenario!? I swear, you people have got to stop drinking the kool-aid... This is a buff™
