"Buy a level 20 CA. They are on the market for 2 chaos. If you were SC, I'd *give* you one. Thank you - I just purchased a level 18 one (since im level 67).
Even with this...my dps is at 2k chaos damage. Should I get rid of health nodes and respec into more damage even though I'm HC? |

" IIR is the 6L gem. Use Rapid Decay instead, that'll help a bit. Also looks like you're not factoring in frenzy charges to your dps. Just keep doing what you're doing for HC. More important to survive than to worry about damage. It'll be slow going though it'll be worth it to survive. You're missing two key damage clusters, between Dirty Techniques and finishing off Growth & Decay. Make the gem swap (RD instead of IIR) and grab those two clusters and you'll start to feel more comfortable with the damage (~8-11k ish with charges up). Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018.

" I don't see a source for piercing in your tree or gem links, so you're missing 90% increased damage from Drillneck. You'd need to grab the pierce cluster in your tree and drop Inc AoE or Conc Effect for pierce support gem, giving you 100% pierce. You'd also then need to swap out Chain in your chest piece for something with utility like Blind or LGoH. |
|
That, too. Thanks, gas.
But dropping Conc is not worth it. It should either be done via the tree, or sacrificing the AoE gem. The multiplicative damage from CE is too potent to drop. Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018. Last edited by Serleth#4392 on Apr 10, 2016, 12:59:29 AM

Thanks for the responses.
Just to make sure I understand (I am a noob) 1) Get Piercing shots ASAP in skill tree followed by growth and decay 2) Drop IIR in 5-L and add rapid decay -- or do I add pierce? Does pierce get added to the bow or to the chest piece? 3) Why do I swap out chain in chest? |
|
You add pierce to the bow, so your 5L would be:
Caustic Arrow - Void Manipulation - Rapid Decay - Pierce - Concentrated Effect You lose coverage area without Inc. AoE and no way to get double arrow as Shadow without an expensive Drillneck corruption, so you'll have to adjust your aim accordingly. But with 100% pierce, you can line up your shot and drop clouds along an entire column of mobs. Piercing takes priority over chaining, and with 100% pierce you never chain. So you swap out the Chain in your chest Frenzy setup for something else. |

" a) Yes, although using Pierce will allow you to temporarily forgo the need to get Piercing shots (although you will still want it). To explain in more detail: Drillneck's damage scaling is provided by Pierce chance. But the Pierce gem also provides a multiplicative damage boost. The damage formula, in its simplest terms, works like this: Final DPS = (Base DPS * Increased Damage Modifiers) * Multiplicative {More} Damage Modifiers. So speaking strictly in terms of Drillneck's damage and the Pierce modifier, whenever you add Pierce chance while utilizing Drillneck, it's equivalent to adding Increased Projectile Damage, up to a cap of 100% pierce chance. Given that the gem provides 50% increased damage in addition to a 29% more modifier at level 20, the formula translates to this (in this example, we'll use an arbitrary value of 100 base dps) Final DPS = (100 * 50%) * 29% = (150) * 29% = 193.5 This same order of operations is why Concentrated Effect is so valuable: it has the highest multiplicative damage bonus of the gems that can support CA. However, it's important to note that there's a threshold after which even that boost from Pierce becomes less than that of Empower. If you use Poacher's Aim jewel in your tree, in conjunction with Piercing Shots and the 10% implicit from Drillneck, you can get as high as 75% pierce chance, at which point the 25% increased damage remaining that you could acquire from the Pierce gem pales in comparison to the benefit of an Empower level 2 (in a +3 bow). 2) Pierce is preferable for the aforementioned reason, and it gets added to the bow. It only provides additional pierce chance to the linked skill. 3) Projectile Effect types on the wiki will inform you in solid detail. Jul 27, 2011 - Sept 30, 2018.
