That is true. But i'm not worried about changing the WED ( as a modifer ) in general. I'm more worried about the WED support gem combined with FB because it provides more damage and not increased. I don't know it might be ok given the changes to the monsters and higher game difficulty in the Awakening.
If GGG indeed makes the WED just ED with attacks then surely these gloves would be much more viable for a melee build.

Hmm... lightning damage to spells while unarmed... didn't see that one coming.

However, now that you could use two wands each with a prefix with damage to spells, I'm not really sure I see a scenario where going unarmed will really be better than two really good rare wands. (But perhaps it will allow an option that has a lower gear requirement.)

Now we need jewels modifying spells while unarmed to go along with this (either Rare or Unique jewels.)

You fail to take into account that when they implement the "x elemental damage to spell" mods, they will "rebalance all spells damage effectiveness". I have a very, very bad feeling about it.

I'm overall not on board with this change at all, it equalizes attack and spell builds, but that's not a good thing in my book. Spell builds had the advantage of mainly depending on gem level, and so being very cheap to gear and level. Now they will be dependant on gear just as much or maybe more than attack builds.

I love some of the changes in Awakening, but other changes like this just feel haphazard and strange.


the mods are a pretty low number compaered to this figures. it was already 30% effectivness for ball lightning and add lightning was still worth it. If they make it even less they can basicly rework all base numbers. I don t thing anyone would add it if only 10% of it goes into dmg.
However they reworked much already so how knows :-)
i hope you guys are saving the actually good uniques for the official release because every unique that has been displayed so far is absolute trash

As for a spell caster - yea i can see that happening, tho they are far from being godly.

"the new uniques have to enable godly builds that make clear speeds of 0.345 sec possible so i will not get bored of this game with my uber-duber-gear"


why the hell does everything need to be godly and uber and what not? i personally don't give a shit about uber/mega/GODLY items that just make the game boring for me. i don't give a friggin shit about setting new records in clearing maps in less than 321 seconds. i don't need 5 gazillion dps to just get bored after clearing for example 200 x uber atziri in less than an hour.

MY reason for playing this game is to have fun. trying out different builds that work for me til endgame whilst HAVING FUN!

if that item doesn't make GODLY builds possible - who cares? if it gives me new possibilities i will spend my currency on it in case i don't drop it and will make it work for me.

You kind of missed the point buddy. Caster-wise it's a cool unique, it's not godly here and that's more than ok, actually that's awesome! Godly uniques are just badly designed. My issue is that wehen it comes to melee it is not godly - that's true, but it is not good also ... not good at all ... to the point where it is not viable ( read not playable ) and that's my issue with this item. The fact the item has very high level requirements doesn't help its case. This item ( judging by the requirements ) is created to be an end-game viable item, and that means that it should be able to clear end-game content. If you slap it on a caster - sure it can tho i can't really say how successful and no not compared to super-hyper-mega godly item but compared to good yet still not perfect/godly/uber gear. But when it comes to the melee side of the item .. it is just not good at all because of the unarmed mechanics of PoE regarding elemental damage ( unarmed attacks have low attack speed, can't use weapon elemental damage, can't be built around crit etc. etc. )

Do you consider "fun" creating a build ( which will probably cost you quite a bit ) and end-up not being able to clear even mid-level maps while using end-game intended build-enabling unique ? If the answer is yes ... then my apologies ... but i don't consider that "fun" at all.

I don't want to see godly uniques and godly gear at all ... but i want to see gear that is actually playable for the portion of the game for which it is intended to. That's all.

It's just the item base, several of them (rapiers, boots, scepters, etc) have Vaal (type) as the base name; shouldn't have anything to do with corrupting other gloves to get these ones.
