Reduce end game Attack/Cast speed

People need to realize that it's not all about DpS.
One can play a "slow attack build" and kill anything in this game.

Use a weapon like this...

...and punch monsters in the face.
With Marohi, I was clearing quite fast in Bloodlines, actually.
(I took the "faster attacks" gem for a smooth attack animation, so I can position better, not for the DpS)


When you are not using super-fast attacks and crit, you are not taking advantage of two crazy damage multipliers. You're also not taking full advantage of flat physical damage on rings or items like Abyssus (they scale better with superfast crit weapons).
So your DpS will look like shit.
But that doesn't mean you cannot progress in this game.


You could even fill a 6L with "non fast attack" gems, like...
Static Strike
+Melee damage
+WED
+added fire
+Melee full
+physical to lightning
(not saying I would do this or that this is a great choice, but you got the options... I didn't even mention utility gems like BM, LGoH, ECoMS, too...)

Personally I also think attacks/casting is happening too fast in PoE. It looks kinda ridiculous how fast a well-equipped hero can punch, even with clumsy looking weapons.
Gameplaywise, I prefer a AS hard cap like in Titan Quest, but it's obvious that a hard cap opens another "Pandora's box of balancing issues": in TQ it's completly inefficient to use fast and lighter weapons, when you can easily cap your AS with a heavy mace that has almost twice the base damage.

I've suggested a "slower attacks" support gem a couple of times, like:
*30% less attack speed
*70% more damage
(0.7*1.7= 20% more DpS, this should be in line with other support gems)

I'd like to see such a thing implemented, but I doubt they'll even consider.

It has all been said. You can make slow characters if you prefer that, no need to "nerf" attack speed cap for all others that enjoy a fast paced game.

The problem is that they have to balance around attack speed people and anyone else who doesnt go that route is left behind and screwed. Same thing with those that do not aura stack or not use a 6L item or not craft gg mirror gear.
There should either be a cap, or attack speed should be converted into "attack time reduction", naturally having diminishing returns.

So yours and OP's suggestion is to nerf any other playstyle that you don't enjoy?

Everyone is different and everyone wants something different.

This is the same argument that can be applied to "self found" nothing is stopping you from using a slower harder hitting weapon. Nothing is stopping you from not using multistrike or echo and using a dps support gem instead.

Would I like to see a charge up based support gem for melee, sure but I also don't want to dumpster other builds because someone prefers to attack slower and hit harder.

There should either be an attack speed cap, or it should have diminishing returns.

That being said, naturally I would like all sorts of builds to be viable, with their own upsides and downsides.

But "ridiculous" should be neither an upside nor downside.

Caps by design are lazy and stupid game choice designers make.

Every single time people say:

cap crit chance
cap crit multi

now is cap attack speed, cap cast speed

Those are terrible game choices and one that I hope GGG would never make.

Offensive caps obviously. Even GGG makes exceptions to ele res and block if people so choose to invest that far into it.

I also listed specific examples of what isn't "capped" and what shouldn't be capped, but well played on trying to twist it to discredit my statement further.
