I don't think he'll get to maps solo self-found, no wiki help. I'll give him up to mid cruel.

Yeah, same here. Been watching him the second day now with mixed feeelings... Partly it's fun to watch him flip out with joy over minor rare upgrades, partly it's painful to hear him say stuff like "Arctic Armor is worthless becouse it doesn't do anything useful" or not identifying strongboxes in HC becouse "it's not worth an ID scroll in normal difficulty".

Well, i hope that he'll eventually start reading up on things and that he'll keep on playing till he reaches maps :)

Even with the instructions in front oh his eyes he doesn't know wtf to do, how this guy got so popular?

"Track the infected beasts using their blood pool" [or something like that]

"Oh now it points where to go, oh now it doesn't, this doesn't make sense"

Facepalm

we will inevitably get a lot of people who just want to change the game, rather than adapt to it's style.

You mean like all those people who refused to accept that short allocation is how GGG wanted the game to be played and then later forced GGG to implement permanent allocation?

Sure, that's a perfectly valid example.

Spoiler
I'm not convinced, though, that this would not have happened anyway... even with a very low population. Closed Beta tags have not automatically meant support for FFA as far as I have seen.

So, imagine a huge-- and by huge I mean tens of thousands of players-- influx of people into POE. Those players are almost certainly used to the handholdy, crouch for a sec and regenerate, infinite respecs with helpful suggestions culture that exists in gaming today.

...And they have money.

What do you think would come of that?

GGG loved cut throat mindset. Fuck your feelings. Now they have abandoned this mentality and cater to the casuals. They should have said "fuck you", this game stays cut throat, you will fight for loot if you are in a party.

It's sad but a factual thruth. This game is not a democracy and it should not be. Closed beta supporters or not doesn't matter.

Well when it comes to the D3 player base he's probably a genius.

Nothing. GGG makes enough money from Taiwan version of the game. They have little reason to get threatened by players in Global.

I just visited Taiwan and I can tell you the reason behind that is because gamers in Taiwan is used to pay2win games which is very common with mmos from Korea and China, as well as many casual friendly games that emplisize on social aspect (like guys will spend hundred and hundred of dollars buying exclusive maid outfits or pretty dresses for the girls they are chasing or for their gf ingame).

Taiwan is very small island country so travel is nothing (the major freeway that connects taiwan's most northen city the the most southern is less than 360km long)... offline meetings/parties/dates are very common in Taiwan...

So since they are used to spending cash in games they play they are huge in purchasing MTX... but then again GGG will indeed make good money from them but at the same time PoE has nothing (cure stuff pretty dresses, awesome scenery ect) that captures female gamers (which are "gold mine")... if everything goes well and PoE can hold on to the few hardcore gamers there they will make some cash but PoE will never be huge due to lacking in social focus especially on players of the opposite sex.

Lastly, Taiwan has access to hundreds and hundreds of new games every year... especially in ARPG and MMOs... and these people got money (cost of living vs average income in taiwan is exceptional far better than US) it will be tough to keep these players' long term loyalty.
The real hardcore PoE players and the elites sit in town and zoning in and out of their hideouts trading items. Noobs that don't know how to play PoE correctly, kill monsters for items. It's pure fact, it will never change.

Welcome to PoE.

Watching moldran play really shows how poor of a job the game is doing of letting new players know about some basic vendor recipes, or just basic game systems like effects of currency on normal/blue/rare,[...]

Currency items have a descripton of what they do. Don´t know what more of an explanation you need...

[qute="TheAnuhart"]There is nothing forced or fake about Moldran.

He is innocence personified. He may well be many things to the viewer, fickle, self contradicting, obsessed, easily excited, over reacting, strange as fuck, OCD, and much more, but he is most of all, genuine as genuine can be.[/quote]

Yeah, sure! Subhyping, displaying donations on the overlay and sucking the viewer´s dick in general is so genuine. The only genuine popular streamer was the old Kripp, but even has started to do that kind of stuff. Streaming has a become a sad display of how people will abuse the lonliness of people for cash.

Grats for your new job as GGG's accountant.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
I watched this guy for about 2 hours each on saturday and sunday.
I have to say it was AWESOME.
This guy is a total nab when it comes to PoE, but you can see from the way he is playing and using terms that he knows very well "how" to play ARPGS in general.
I agree he has no knowledge of the PoE in specific, but in general, he plays very well. If he plays more he will eventually learn PoE and i beleive he could be very good at it.

At this point, its just so fucking funny to watch him do the stupidest shit :D

For example, i almost fell out of my chair when he used Fireball @ 42 DPS and then found gloves that add 3-8 Fire damage.
He begings to scream WOOOOOOOOOW THESE GLOOOOOOOOOOVES WOWOWOWOWOW will boost ma DPS !!!!!!!

Then he equips them and DPS stays the same and his face is like WAAAAAAAAAAAAT for like 5 seconds.

Hoenstly, this shit is priceless.

And he apparently likes the loot.
For when he killed guy, it dropped like 5 rares and he is so HAPPY wow.

Or when he did find this rare Mallet and goes on for 2 minutes about WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW a RARE MALLET.

Seriously, best entertaining value.

EDIT: For the record, i believe he might actually have some kind of lesser sickness of the mind ?

"cater to the casuals". With one hit-ko mentality, learning curve so hard that it is beyond "casual" and hardcore challenges? Yeah, casual. Because they gave people loot allocation, so people don't have to roll a dice every time an item drops. And public parties are actually a thing now, because otherwise all public parties were giving you was a headache or major frustration, when game hang, because of its terrible engine, and someone have taken an item from your feet. Yeah, because people who doesn't like that are casuals XD. That makes sense!

Game is far from being easy, or being aimed at casuals. You can't "be casual" and be doing maps on hardcore. Fact that game starts to offer some QoLs, and is helping a lil bit in understanding the REALLY complicated mechanics, meta, uniques etc. is only for the better. You still need to learn everything yourself, so its not like game is handing stuff to you.

FYI, you STILL can go Free For All or Short Allocation if you want, so its not like GGG forced anyone to do that.
Most people does not like the "cutthroat mentality". TBH, it doesn't really make much sense, because it is not even true cutthroat. Someone can click on an item faster than you, take it, and then there is NOTHING you can do to get it. Why the fuck is it named cutthroat then? Because normally you'd just kill that other person who taken that item, and take it from them. Oh? Too hardcore for you now?
You think anyone would ever want to join parties with such option on? Guess why people don't like Free For All then.

ON-TOPIC:
I remember long ago, when Moldran was mocking PoE for its complex mechanics (the Excel spreadsheets for "the betterest PoE build)".) I honestly doubt that person with such attitude will ever understand what PoE is about. Hopefully tho, he'll bring some people here. :@
