Required Gear:


Calculations comparison to physical crit shockwave totem build [fixed]:

TOO LONG CANT READ = ~46-73% more damage before burn damage

My Build passive tree:
20% area damage
16% elemental damage with spells you cast
129% spell damage
25% increased damage vs burning enemies
104% elemental damage
141% fire damage
20% physical damage
8% totem damage

122% fire pen from ele weakness (20/20), flammability (level 18), passive tree fire penetration (5%), fire penetration gem (level 18)

MY BUILD TOTAL (before crit) = (463% * 122%) = 1028% effective damage

Crit Calculations:
~21% chance to crit
80% crit multiplier from tree
100% crit multiplier from death's harp
150% base * (100% deaths harp + 80% tree) = 420% new crit multiplier

MY BUILD TOTAL = (1028% * .79) + ([1028% * 420%] * .21) = ~1936% effective damage
MY BUILD TOTAL (swapping lightning warp for ice spear + Power charge on crit [4 charges] = (1028% * .71) + ([1028% * 420%] * .29) = ~2280% effective damage



HVR's Build http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1000748 passive tree(elemental nodes 50% effective [only applied after hatred/HoA conversion]):
20% area damage
8% elemental damage with spells you cast
99% spell damage
19% elemental damage
20% physical damage
8% totem damage
24% spell damage from power charges

Assasin's mark crit calculations:
39% more damage from critical
~44% chance to crit with assasin's mark + 7 power charges applied
~116% crit multiplier from tree
*replace fire penetration gem with a 20/20 crit damage gem = 78% crit multiplier
((116% + 78%) * 150% base crit multiplier) = 441% = new crit multiplier
(39% more assasin mark * (344 - 100)) = 95.16% crit multiplier from assasins mark
(95.16% + 116% tree + 78% crit gem) * 150% base = 585% new crit multiplier


HVR'S BUILD TOTAL = (198% * .56) + ([198% * 585%] * .44) = ~708% effective damage
HVR'S BUILD TOTAL (add in average dual wield divinarius to replace death's harp/blackgleam) = (318% * .46) + ([318% * 585%] * .54) = ~1323% effective damage


Calculations (continued) with resistance lowered/penetration comparison to physical crit shockwave totem build:

First i need to get my pre-curse/penetration effective DPS which was 463%, then calculate for crit:
MY BUILD TOTAL = (463% * .79) + ([463% * 420%] * .21) = ~872% effective damage
MY BUILD TOTAL (swapping lightning warp for ice spear + Power charge on crit [4 charges] = (463% * .71) + ([463% * 420%] * .29) = ~1027% effective damage


Fire Penetration Explanations:
*We have no idea what monster resistances are, but from these calculations you will see why ele weakness and flammability are "penetration":


Example 1:
EW = Elemental Weakness
FM = Flammability
FP = Fire penetrtion gem
*from passive tree we have 5% fire penetration

Lets say Monster Resistance = 200%

With level 19 FM = 38% lowered resist
With level 20/quality 20 EW = 47% lowered resist
WIth level 18 FP = 33% fire penetration

If an enemy is resisting 200% of this damage then the only calculations that take effect are the fire penetration gem and the passive tree penetration.
In this case the calculations are:
200% - 38% FM - 47% EW = 115% fire resistance --> 75% capped fire resistance

Then the actual fire penetration comes into play = 75% capped res - 33% FP - 5% tree = 37% monster fire resistance


Then effective damage of my build is (including crit):
Without ice spear = 872% * (1 - 0.37) = 549% effective damage
With ice spear = 1027% * (1 - 0.37) = 647% effective damage

Effective damage of HVR's build is (including crit):
With ice spear = 1323% * (1 - 0.75) = 331% effective damage



Example 2:
EW = Elemental Weakness
FM = Flammability
FP = Fire penetrtion gem
*from passive tree we have 5% fire penetration

Lets say Monster Resistance = 50%

With level 19 FM = 38% lowered resist
With level 20/quality 20 EW = 47% lowered resist
WIth level 18 FP = 33% fire penetration

In this case the calculations are:
50% - 38% FM - 47% EW - 33% FP - 5% tree = -73% fire resistance

Then effective damage of my build is (including crit):
Without ice spear = 872% * (1 - (-0.73)) = 1508% effective damage
With ice spear = 1027% * (1 - (-0.73)) = 1777% effective damage

Effective damage of HVR's build is (including crit):
With ice spear = 1323% * (1 - 0.5) = 662% effective damage



Example 3:
EW = Elemental Weakness
FM = Flammability
FP = Fire penetrtion gem
*from passive tree we have 5% fire penetration

Lets say Monster Resistance = 0%

With level 19 FM = 38% lowered resist
With level 20/quality 20 EW = 47% lowered resist
WIth level 18 FP = 33% fire penetration

In this case the calculations are:
0% - 38% FM - 47% EW - 33% FP - 5% tree = -122% fire resistance

Then effective damage of my build is (including crit):
Without ice spear = 872% * (1 - (-1.22)) = 1936% effective damage
With ice spear = 1027% * (1 - (-1.22)) = 2280% effective damage

Effective damage of HVR's build is (including crit):
With ice spear = 1323% * (1 - 0) = 1323% effective damage

Rushed the video and died twice - once double cursed myself and got hit with flameblast and the other was invisible lightning. Worth a watch for the insane DPS.

2nd video (Inc. AOE instead of Conc. Effect and no curses) almost 1 shotting Magnus:

calculations
- took away 3 points from Throatseeker, crit multi node #1, crit multi node #3
- put 3 points into Deep Thoughts , mana node #1, mana and mana regen node #1

before = 19,740 DPS tooltip (conc effect), 137.5 Mana Regen
after = 21,523 DPS tooltip (conc effect), 136.2 Mana Regen

Basically it was +9.0% DPS for -1.0% Mana Regen.

Cant run arctic armor right now mana regen is only ~133 with a level 17 clarity.

It would be possible to drop the rare amulet for an atziri's foible to get ~70%+ more mana regen. Additionally there is ~120% more mana regen within direct reach on the skill tree, would need to drop some DPS to attain it though.

I think the tradeoff is good because the totems take a lot of hits to die and aggro the monsters which effectively increases survivability if you are careful.

I switched from ice spear + power charge on crit to lightning warp because monsters were dying so fast i don't have time to cast ice spear anyways.

Yes it will be but it's well worth it compared to 3b + 2r.

That is just wrong. It is 150% base + 150 * 116% tree = 324%
