Well, I am a moron, can't use my new personally crafted shield because if I do I am at 48% cold resistance. If anyone else can use the shield let me know, glad to give it to someone who can make use of it. I think this is a sign that I am pretty much done messing around with my gear this league.

This actually seems pretty salvageable - the best suffixes to craft (in terms of total resistance) is + to 2 resistances, because it can get you up to 40% total. If you craft +#% to Fire and Cold Resistances instead of just +#% to Fire Resistance, that'll get you a lot closer, at the cost of some fire resistance (which I don't think you lack? Unless you've changed your gear from your PoB).

If you use some Prismatic Catalysts on your ring and/or belt, I think you can probably get it back to the cap or very close to it.

Hi guys, I'm new to PoE. Playing it for just like 14 days. I know that there will be a new season in two weeks. So trying to find a build that fits me. Arc Mage seems to be a winner. I have one problem. On my level 62, I seem to be very squishy. I'm in ACT 8 and I had problems finishing the second labyrinth.

The heist contract - I must do min. -5 level or even lower, if I try to do my level contract, it is too hard and I'm dead on the way back.

I do not focus on trading items with other players. But I think I should start, min. in a new league. Any tips on what can help me to survive? Any item should I focus on or buy as a first one?
Wow, so much has changed since I last played my Arc Witch a year ago...and 600 pages since that time too

Finally reached lv97 near end of league, and I even met another Enki Arc Witch mirror in party today : )

I'm quite happy about the character now, and hope next league can bring something new to optimize more.

Sharing my gears here:

For cluster jewel setup, I sacrificed a bit DPS & life to get more flask utility, so I can get around 10s flask duration in map, that feels great for general mapping. Didn't spend much currency there, just buy cheap ones that were available in market.

POB mentions 7.1M Shaper DPS without flask: https://pastebin.com/uvBd55JY

It's pretty normal to have trouble finishing the Cruel lab at that level I think, and in general to have trouble with areas that are the same level you are. (Character level and monster level don't really have much to do with each other.)

But it is a lot easier if you do some trading. Which items are best to get depends almost entirely on what build you're playing, but buying a Tabula Rasa early on is generally very helpful. Or look for corrupted 6-link body armors that have the socket colors you need. For survivability, just getting +maximum life on as much gear as possible and getting your resistances maxed should be enough to keep you alive for the campaign. Goldrim is a popular helm for resistances.

For next league, you might want to start with a different build - I actually don't think this one is very beginner-friendly. Cyclone impale and Blade Vortex are pretty foolproof, for example (although BV might get nerfed).

I have to disagree with only your last point: I think this is a rock-solid beginner build with purposeful attention paid to teaching the fundamentals. Yes, the build mechanics you mention as foolproof do indeed have more scaling potential than this one, but I defy you to find a guide for one of those that is truly more beginner-friendly than Enki's. Enki's entire point is to welcome new players into the fold and provide a springboard for them for future builds.

I do think this build in its current incarnation is capable of great heights, much more than most with this level of accessibility, but I also understand it's not entirely intuitive. The current meta does not really provide for a build that can dominate endgame content while remaining simplistic. I am guessing we will see some huge structural changes to the build next league as Enki tries to recreate the core of the build around more straightforward mechanics, and I am quite curious how that will play out.

All that said, I absolutely understand where you're coming from and totally appreciate you contributing. All disagreement is meant with utmost respect.
Argh, I just tried fighting Sirus A8 (after successfully fighting Sirus A7 a few days back) and died with him at like 11% health (just above the culling threshold). I don't feel like grinding maps again for it, so I'm going to take a break from POE.

I had set trading for a Headhunter as a goal, and I'm about 2/3 of the way (~25 exalts) there, but I think I'll try to get it when I come back to the game.

This guide has been terrific though! Seeing everyone's advice has also helped. My final build has:

  • At level 93
  • 8.4m max DPS (Righteous Fire, Conductivity, Elemental Overload)
  • 5m Sirus DPS (same, but after reductions)
  • 4.3m normal mob damage (only Righteous Fire)
  • 3.6k life, 7.9k mana, 64% Attack/Spell block with Rumi's Concoction, 50% damage to mana: 17k Physical eHP
  • Character page
  • POB Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/gXy6we5W

Here are some extra tips in addition to my tips from last time.

Medium cluster jewels: I did some research into Medium Cluster Jewel options on Craft Of Exile. There aren't any great options for survivability (other than the Flask Duration ones, which I didn't love), so I ended up choosing to focus on DPS. With my Storm Brand/Hextouch/Conductivity setup, 2 options really stood out. Each of them end up improving DPS by ~15-20% over 4 nodes, which is pretty decent.

  • Curse Effect with Tempt the Storm (massive Conductivity boost), along with Master of Fear (Unnerve for 10% extra damage) or Wish for Death (Culling Strike - I decided to instead just use the support gem)
  • Effect of Non-Damaging Ailments with Overshock (lightning damage and increased Conductivity effect) and Astonishing Affliction (extra lightning effect)

Dealing with Freeze: I think a few folks have mentioned making the same switch. I generally found getting frozen to be a larger cause of death than poison. I replaced my Mana Flask of Curing with a Mana Flask of Heat for that reason. One alternative is to craft "Cannot be frozen" onto boots, but I found boots with no free suffixes, so couldn't do that.

Hi peeps,

Fairly new to this game. Love it compared to Diablo 3. Have played through the 10 acts and now sit at level 70.

I am confused by the amount of gems which need to be triggered on this build. I watched the YouTube videos and it looks like only 5 spells are triggered. Arc, Flame Dash, Sigil of Power, Arcane Cloak and Vaal Righteous Fire. That leaves one spot empty.

How do Desecrate, Bone Offering, Clarity and Wrath get triggered?

Thanx,

Desecrate and Bone Offering should be on a trigger wand which means that whenever another spell is cast they will get triggered.

Clarity and Wrath are auras, they are either on or off.
Here is where it seems my build will end for this league. Depending upon what Enki does for next league I might try to replicate this again, the damage is quite sufficient and survivability is good but not great so I wouldn't want it to go down for more damage that doesn't seem entirely needed. I do understand that the idea is for the guide to help new players and his comment about some of what makes this build good can be confusing to them.

Flask I swap in for Sirus and other bosses

Various jewels in use currently

I do also have another few items that I can swap in but they don't seem to make a huge difference and the primary set is nice because it is more flexible should I ever find the ideal shield.

Lastly, and certainly least, the Heist trinket which besides giving another incubator slot wasn't something that made any difference for me this league.
