melee can kite.

Use an aoe, cleave, reave etc. Attack, circle, attack, circle.. same thing a bow does just closer. What is saving you is simply moving, not the distance.

I will see you here in forums in 2 weeks QQ'ing about the lag and rubberbanding and how your belowed HC character died...
I personally like the nerfs, although in my opinion the block nerfs are a bit too severe. I dont know the reason behind this ofc, maybe they just want blocking as a small added bonus to your other defences.
I agree that the game was in need of some balance to adjust some of the more out of balance skills/builds. Block being one of them. However I also agree that the patch notes are not very exciting to a lot of people, myself included. Am I going to play tomorrow? Yes, but I have time to play and I like the "finding/crafting" a new build challenge. That said my excitement is a bit lower than I was expecting. There is just not a lot to get excited about with these patch notes.

Here is hoping that the patch plays stronger that it reads and that GGG has infused it with some new life.
And what items are you planning for this build?
I can't even think of Cloak of Defiance because i have currency of about 5!!! exa value!

It's easy for everyone to ignore the needs of the intermediate players, but what will be left if they quit because nobody could perform adequate in the end game with <20h/week because every 3 month their one character was nerfed to death? Would it be funny to play a game with only a few hundred high end players, but nobody else? Who will left to spend his currency put aside on your amazing farmed items?
And the most important question: why should GGG develop a game for only a few hundred players?

So arguing with "I spend so much more money in this game than you, so shut the fuck up!" isn't a very intelligent way to argue.

In real, the intermediate layer must get along with the circumstances formed by the politics. In PoE, they can quit! And then it will become very, very boring here...

Block was just overpowered as hell. Sorry, but it was. It became one of the most facerolliest builds in the game after you got the gear. And with all that chance to just completely avoid hits and spells, what else were they supposed to do other than reduce the chances? Make monsters that directly counter block builds? You'd be whining about that here then - "THIS IS SO UNFAIR MAKING MONSTERS THAT DIRECTLY COUNTER MY BUILD". The third way of making the game harder with overpowered blocking in mind would've been making the hits even harder when you DO get hit, and that would affect other builds more than block ones.

How else would you make the game harder for block builds? You had so much avoidance that it wouldn't have mattered at all. It would've made the game harder for other builds, sure, but you'd still be facerolling without barely paying attention.

You can start in the new league where everyone starts with 0 currency so you'll have much better chance of getting something than you'll ever be in standard / hardcore, and you'll be on the level with others. That's the reason people play the new leagues and not the standard ones.
On the other hand, this game was never meant to be easy as in you play for a 2 hours and you'll get 2 uniques that will boost your game (as in Diablo III). You have to craft, struggle and rejoice when you get that ok-ish rare with some life and ok resists because it's better then the blue you're wearing. It was never about getting a shitton of uniques that are amazing, it was always a grind and will continue to be so this patch doesn't affect you more than the last did.

I had posted a suggestion a few minutes ago, based on the circumstance that every OP block build people are concernig about was connected with dodge (acrobatics) and high evasion:

block + dodge was so broken in pve, so so broken. Oh hello, I evade 50% of attacks, 95% of projectiles, then when one actually hits has 40% chance to be dodged, then 50% chance to be blocked, and if anything actually makes it through to actually damage me Ive got 42% flat physical resist thanks to my lightning coil and base endurance charges I didnt even invest in passively.... and you have all this while playing a +5k life, 100k dps crit weapon spec.

It was just too strong, way too strong. Its still possibly too strong even with the changes.

But this was only one possible block build. If this was such a problem, why wasn't the nerfing of acrobatics enough? Or giving some notable block passives a nerf on evade/dodge? This way would only destroyed such an OP combination of damage evasion, but not every way to play block builds.

EDIT:

That was the funniest thing I#ve ever read... In last league, while I'm proud about reaching lvl 25, there was the note that the first character reaches lvl 80... While I was on my first map, the top players were grinding Uber-Atziri. And I've even never managed to face normal Atziri or even HC-Dominus until now...

Doubtful. Snorkle's pretty competent at the game.
Only thing I'm going to miss is the hybrid phys/accuracy mod, now I have to pay outrageous prices for mediocre weapons because kids know you can't make your own. Oh and 1k alterations won't land you a tier 1 phys mod on any weapon so good fucking luck making your own gear.

They nerfed the chance to manually craft an item thanks to multicraft and after nerfing multicraft and removing the only viable phys crafted mod they haven't rebuffed the chance to land good mods. Fuck off with your give and take and pay attention to what you're doing pls.

Common feedback is that we need to buff the weaker skills and also make the game generally more challenging. This is equivalent to applying small nerfs to the strongest skills.

There are two types of players in POE:
[1] Competitive no lifer – Dedicate themselves to this game. Can reach level 80 in first day of the new league. Will probably have 6 link shavronne’s at the end of second week. Deal 3million dps.
[2] Regular gamers – Who can play max 2-3 hours / day. Still couldn’t kill Atziri or Uber Atziri. Just looking the pictures of Acuity gloves…

Consider how many percent is in the first group and how many in the second group. You only care about the feedback from the first group who is already face rolling every content in this game. How will the characters of second group survive from all these defensive nerfs? For second group it is even becoming more difficult to achieve the end game farming.

If you still want second group to continue supporting PoE, think about it Chris... I have enough challenge already. I want to succeed in my struggle. Stop taking it to a further point every time.

I think this post puts it well. For people like me who do not have infinite amount of time etc, I feel I am being punished for trying to invest time and effort to go late game.

In the rampage league I made my first 92 character. I was quite happy because it was my own build (flameblast+flamesurge+CI+block) and although it wasn't amazing, it worked quite well.

Now I feel that the amount of time I have spent is kind lost. In fact I didn't expect to get level 92 in rampage, if I wasn't lucky to get some good drops to complete my gear, the build might have been incomplete now.

So what I am being told is essentially that I didn't deserve to get to level 92 and being able to do 78 level maps, it was because block was too OP.

This wouldn't have been that much of a problem If I could have the chance to improve my build for a longer amount of time. I thought that because I can't afford to level and financially support multiple late game characters, I could try having one (or at least one for quite some time, for example a year) that I give all the money and effort.

But this is not possible it seems. So basically I now feel that it is not worth spending much time in getting late game and trying to refine my build, only to find my build being destroyed in the next patch. This of course may affect my willingness to get a lot of microtransactions. I will gladly spend a lot of microtransaction in a character I know I can invest, but if everything will be for a few months and then reroll my motivation decreases. Having said that, I have invested in microtransactions even for builds that didn't get to late game, but I would be willing to spent more if a character gets to late game.

I understand that some builds and mechanics have become too strong and no brainers. For example, cloak of defiance+MOM+arctic armour. The game also have to progress and be refined/enriched so that it is interesting. But I wish that there would be a way for being able to invest in a build without the fear that it will be destroyed in the next patch. I am not sure if that's even possible though.
