Remote mine builds.
I really want to play a Miner. But since 1.0, the incentive to do Miners and Trapers IMHO is lessend every patch.
We got Selfcast Buffs through Spellecho and the possibility to get Elemental leech, even if minor, from gear. Befor the EK change (1s castspeed to 0.8), playing a EK miner with Minelaying speed was an awesome alternative to selfcast. Now its just clunky. There are NO mine uniques. You can not leech, meaning you need either liferegen (which you need to travel the whole tree from the trap and mine nodes to the marauder area) or you need to go CI with faster ES regen. The change to Mines not instantly laying where you stand but going to your cursor and then laying also made playing Mines more annoying. There are only 2 base Mines, Freeze Mine and Smoke mine, which are both more supportish types of Mines. With traps you can easily use Bowskills with PB and throwing them. Mines do not have this luxury. Mines also have a wonky targeting mechanism, which does not let you choose targets safely if spread out too much. (There is only arc, and a selfcasted Arcer does more and faster damage and also leeching). You can not get powercharges with Mines and therefore barely can go crit. Traps at least have an unique shield to generate charges. I really want to put together a Mine build, but whenever I am finished with planing I think to myself: "Why no just go selfcast XYZ..." Point given that Mines do not suffer from reflect, but thats it pretty much. I really wanted to do a Freeze Miner (Freeze Mine Ele prolif, then go and lay 6 Ice nova Mines into the mobs), but it lacks a singel target spell now. We need a scorpion mine to complete the mortal kombat ninja trifecta.
It would shoot a hook into an enemy and drag it towards it. As far as mine support gem is concerned, the damage value will probably have to be doubled to make it viable for anything. Since mines can no longer boost totem/minion damage I can see a buff happening in the near future. IGN: NNQQ, Sporkay, Rands_

After theyve changed lating to 'where cursor is' i have no plans to ever use any mine whatsoever
Mines' strongest virtue was insta cast in place and an ability to quickly cast lots of these in the same spot. Now one has to aim and waste time doing unnecessary and unwanted repositions. Who thought tgis is a good idea? Already bad skill got worse and is effectively out of the game after that placement change. |

Vincendra about your "single target cold mine"
Have you considered gmp free pulse? It's incredibly strong since all overlap and you get the mine more multiplier. it makes a good AOE skill but also very effective on single targets. Another option is LMP arctic breath, if put close enough all will hit the same target, making it a devastating nuke at close range. And yes i agree, the old mine mechanic felt a lot more natural, simply spamming and then using the detonate button when needed, only having to control the movement and positioning of your character itself, rather then the mine placement was a lot better imo. It might be fun to try a lightning warp mine build to rain electric death from the skies. Oh wait, storm call is probably better... :\

I've made a FreezeMine+IceNovaMine character a few times and it's worked out very well every time I've tried. The overlap in their mechanics (cold-based point blank aoe) works extremely well and the combination of FreezeMine's -cold resist and High Explosives cold pen means it dishes out a ton of damage even to cold resistant enemies.
In short: - 4L FreezeMine + ColdPen + EleProlif + AoE - 5L IceNova + Mine + ColdPen + AoE + AddedCold/Empower - High Explosives, Clever Construction, Volatile Mines, Expeditious Munitions (start as Shadow) ... And if you're still dying for a single target, I suggest Bear Trap. Scales off of all the trap/mine% passives you take on the way to the mine mechanics passives and does a load of damage. If you tried it in the past, try it again/give it some more time. It's safe and has no problem clearing up through mid-level maps (at which point the damage falls off compared to crit builds). |

Lightning warp might be nice btw. Since it will auto-aim at a target and allow you to be idle in a location to freeze mine prolif, while sending away warp mines.

Actually cold snap might be a really good choice in 1.2.
