Split arrow vs multiple projectiles

I currently use split arrow, but recently saw that there was a support gem called multiple projectiles. What's the difference between the two? Obviously, multiple projectiles will support another active skill and will not work on its own. Is there an advantage to use one over the other?

But do I need to use both? If I have multiple projectiles (say linked to frenzy) it seems like I wouldn't need to use split arrow.

Frenzy + Multiple Projectiles will give you the better damage output at some point. However, you have to be level 22 to start using Multiple Projectiles, and it requires quite a bit of experience to level up. By level 22 your Split Arrow has leveled up quite a bit, adding more arrows and... reduced reduced damage

Split Arrow will also cost less mana than Frenzy + Multiple Projectiles. If you have a mana pool and/or flasks that can support the higher damage skill then yeah, you should use the higher damage skill.
And as it is such so also as such is it unto you
use double strike + multiple projectile lol
Double strike + multi projectiles is definitely the way to go. The support gem makes split arrow completely useless.

if you're made of mana pick the left side

(Sample made from my level 43 bow duelist)

edit:Didn't notice "Frenzy" could be used with bows, for some reason I thought it was a melee only skill, so I've only got a level 1 gem to play with. The Frenzy Charges gained with its +ias% don't seem any different than the charges I gain from other means...

it shoots twice so it could still hit 8 or more(pierce) like split. both shoot same number of arrow bassicly 1 is spread 1 is focused. The big reason is the DPS of Double Strike and less spreaded arrows.

Mana leech is easy to get to near equal cost too o-o

The frenzy skill itself gets a bonus for the charges you have on. So if you have 6 Frenzy Orbs, every frenzy attack will get 6*(X% IAS).

Frenzy is ultimately inferior to doublestrike but if you want to be a hipster it's still very servicable and much better than split.

Mana leech will return the mana over a long period though. So you will hit a wall where Doublestrike Multi won't be spammable (you can probably get Fire Dmg, Faster Projectiles and Faster Attacks on there but not more).
