Molten Staff Scion [1.2.x] (AoF, RT, US, IG)

I am now level 77 and pretty much focused on Dominus Farming. I will make a video going over the process because I think its pretty effective for someone who wants to do solo runs and can't dual client. Pretty much I get second form Dominus into culling range TP out and switch over to these items...

I bought the reaper's pursuit and alch'd the ring, the others I have found doing the Dominus farming.

To get the flask to work I simply turn off one of my auras, hit the divination distillate, and leap slam. This gives me 215 rarity and 16 quantity. I am now hoping a goldwyrm's will drop for some extra quantity if not I maybe buy one soon.

For my chaos recipe since I don't have a bunch of tabs, I keep 3 boots/gloves/helmets on hand, all of the belts and jewelry I find, and 1 chest/2 hand weapon. The rest I vendor for alt and alchemy shards. The alchemy orbs generally are used on rings to speed up the chaos recipe. I have found a few decent rares netting me a handful of chaos as well.

I am very happy with the molten staff scion. With a 4 link I had no issues in maps (have up to level 72 maps) and it has turned out to be a pretty good Dominus farming character because of the combination of dps and sturdiness. I am farming Dominus with both damage auras now and can still tank through the touch of god and his lightning spiders. I can complete 9-10 runs in an hour even though I vendor everything i get between runs.

Right now I am saving up my currency for my next character. I break the monotony of Dominus runs by leveling up that other character.
Hey so I decided to make this build and so far its quite fun, just wondering what stuff I should be going for first on the passive skill tree, thanks :)
To give a quick outline...

Of course we start through the mana regen and mana nodes for scion start. I grab the 4% attack speed from scion start early too (level 3 or 4).

I then move toward battle rouse so I can get the Quickness (30 dex) and Hard Knocks (30 int) nodes whenever my skills/gear requires int/dex.

After that I start heading toward resolute technique. Because you don't get much dex in this build you will likely need RT around the beginning of cruel.

Once you have this basic spread you can easily move in toward more mana/mana regen, more life, or more damage.

I originally posted some leveling trees, but I too often find I would do things different based on my gearing situation and whether or not I am playing hardcore or normal.

As a general rule of thumb though I spread out across the tree as much as I can while leveling only grabbing the nodes I absolutely need. That way when I am higher level each level gets me an awesome node.

Also I leveled with staves because I like the look of them. If you want to level with the good 2h uniques, just skip staff nodes until you find a GG staff. There are plenty of great 2h nodes along the way. Also in my experience the damage nodes aren't really needed until merciless. A high phys weapon and lots of attack speed can carry you a long way.
Looks pretty good but I'm wondering why you didn't go for Point Blank. It is such a enormous damage increase and going under the duellist tree gives you access to the same life and armour more or less, the only major thing you miss out on is the Mana Flows cluster. With mana regen being pretty poor value per point without a large mana pool or Clarity(neither of which this build has) I can't help feel that going for the Reduced mana cost of skills nodes (Dynamo and/or Mental fortitude) would be the better option there anyway. Then it is an easy 5 points to Point Blank.

When I created the build I wanted to see if I could sustain my attacks purely on my mana without the need for clarity. I am currently able to do that thanks to only using a level 5 molten strike and my mana regen keeping pace with my attack speed.

This left points short for getting over to point blank. As far as mana reduction clusters I did consider changing out Rouse for the Dynamo cluster as my mana regen is taking care of things and I don't get much benefit out of rouse now (it was exceptional while leveling though).

I think if you wanting to maximize your damage a duelist might be a better option. You should be able to use revelry to sustain your mana. Look at my third post for a duelist tree that brings a lot more damage to the table.
Couple of things:

How come you have fire penetration in your weapon but it's not linked to anything? Surely it doesn't do anything if a support gem isn't linked.

And you have another fire penetration linked to hatred, warlords mark and reduced mana.. does casting warlords mark on the mobs give them the reduced resistance?

And finally, if you have unwavering stance.. would it make sense to get iron reflexes too?

The gems you pointed are in those sockets so I can level them up. Warlord's mark was used early on, but I switched to flammability, its just leveling. One key thing about the build is you don't need a lot of sockets to make this thing work. So its great for leveling up gems. I used this character to level up gems for my current character.

As far as Iron reflexes, if you look at my gear, its pure armor, and I have very little dexterity. This means I have little to no evasion to convert to armor and I don't have the dex requirements or mana to run grace. So spending points to get to IR would do nothing for my character. Unwavering was taken because I had little to no evasion and I getting stunned prevents me from attacking and with this build you have to keep attacking to sustain life.

The only thing I'm wondering about with your trees is how many auras you intend to run on your life. Typically if you are using blood magic to run aura's on your life you would need a big energy shield buffer to give you a respectable effective life pool.

So my question to you would be what do you feel blood magic gives you over running your skills on mana? My skills are easily sustained and I only have 40-50 unreserved mana.
