(Helping GGG in) Creating a unique item: a breakdown of the breakdown

Charan wanted his 4th unique to have same design element as new GGG's axe (stat growing with character level), but they declined. Now he's upset and wrote around 5k words long essay about it.

Personally, I don't agree with your view on this game at all, but nice read about unique item design :)

Well, obviously GGG in their endeavor also don't agree on his view on the game as a constant, static or stable experience. It's a decision lying deep on their marketing choice, the game being F2P. They need to bring new stuff to the table, change things around. In that essence the allowance of that mod isn't something bad.

Doesn't mean that your TL;DR is spot on, especially as his post holds value for everybody considering to design an item with GGG. It is substantial feedback on a service sold by GGG in an exclusive manner and where they might reconsider their approach.
That was a very interesting read. It makes me wish the game was more stable so not only uniques had more and a longer lasting meaning but character builds as well. I kind of miss the days where standard felt like a place you could grow a character for long periods of time in a relatively stable manner. Now it feels like a waste of time to not play in the 4 month leagues.
You see, this is an extensive breakdown-feedback,which original post in another thread never was.

What i told in that thread was true. And it seems you need more chill pills.

Also this has so much to do with this

Chill.Please...
Bye bye desync!
Here's my take on this.

GGG can still say that they don't want uniques that get more powerful with levels -and- make something like the Harvest.

Since, in my opinion, the Harvester isn't competing for your primary weapon swap slot past level 50 or so.

It's meant to be used on secondary weapon swap to get potion charges.

Every build will need a way to get potion charges on hit as more bosses like Atziri show up.

I've speculated that we will see Kaom and Hyrri next. They will probably also be behind expensive, finite portals.

* The witch using lightning spells will scale them with levels (aside from Tempest Shield - crit chance is 6) and use the flask effect nodes since no crit - you simply make the charges that you do have last longer.

* Shadow and Ranger have crit as far as the eye can see (bow, dagger, general), and so does the spell caster using spells with good base chance. All they need is surgeons mods on flasks.

* Str... I wanted to use the Voidhome with its low base chance but atleast it had 1.8 APS for my 2 hander builds on weapon swap to get charges with crit (ST + crit chance + q accuracy -yeah i know it's problematic at best). Now I know about the Harvest so I have a better option. I will still need a good rare in my main weapon swap.

So uniques getting better with levels meant for your primary weapon swap are a problem imo.

Not something like Harvest which even has a whole theme built around it, sounding like it's something you swap to when you need to replenish your strenght.

He is entitled to his own opinion same as you and i have to admit i agree with him on this if the mod he asked for is being put on an item now which they told him they wont put on his.
I call bullshit on GGG's view of the game. If they wanted us to constantly trade up to progress we wouldn't have 1 unlinked skill wonders like searing bond and flameblast. All you need is a +1 to firegem wand crafted from vendor recipe and you can make it to maps. Also works with arc and cascade...

Hypocrits much?
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

Im curious, were they more flexible with the monster than with the items?

It seems as if they were very limiting to some of the supporters creating uniques, placing unnecessary restrictions on their items, like you mentioned.

When you cough up some serious money, are they more open minded?
"just for try, for see and for know"
I have to admit that this is one of the more thoughtful and critical reviews I've read about the game's development. I hope that GGG takes note of it and uses it constructively. I think that GGG is still a bunch of kids with bold ambitions. When people started throwing money at them, they promised them the world.
Actually i do have a quetion, haven't you paid 12K+ or so to design a monster??How that went?Is actually one of the monsters that we ve been slaying so long desgined by you?
