Dual Ungil crit Witch. Cast On Crit Storm Call [work in progress. comments appreciated]

Hi guys,

this build is inspired by two primary things:
1) how good Ungil's Gauche is (especially if you have 2 of them).
2) how cool and effective CoC Storm Call is. ask Perquil The Lucky.

first off, the gear that's mandatory for this build:

GEAR

  • Dual Ungils are the heart and soul. their huge bonus to block chance plus the critical bonus are key.
we'll even put the lightning damage to good use.
  • Stone Of Lazhwar helps greatly, turning block to spell block.
  • Asenath's Gentle Touch completes the picture. Temporal Chains so monsters can't escape from the incoming blast, nor can they pose a serious threat you can't re-position away from.

it is also required to have a 4-linked item with the GGGB colour combination, for the main skill.
if you don't have one, the gloves can be Chromed to it, but it is very tricky and random.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Skills we will be using:

Main Skill

Spectral Throw + Cast On Critical + Storm Call + LMP (GMP when we can afford the mana).
defines the build. we want to hit as many enemies as possible, and we want to possibly shock them with the knife's lightning damage (amplified. see skill tree) before Storm Call hits.
early on, the knife's damage alone should be enough. once we get to Merciless though, the knife will only be used for the purpose of triggering Storm Call, and providing shock stacks for it.

Secondary Skills

1) Dual Strike + Added Lightning Damage + Increased Critical Damage. great single-target skill that both maximizes the potential of the two knives, and is aided greatly by the gloves.
2) Whirling Blades, to escape quickly out of harm's way, while slowing stuff down with Temporal Chains. + Added Chaos Damage simply because it's fun to ignore stuff's Energy Shield :)

  • Auras:
Wrath and Purity Of Elements, linked to Reduced Mana. alternate between them, as needed.
  • Curse:
Conductivity. ideally we want to override Temporal Chains with this, just before Storm Call hits. requires quite a bit of timing, but highly effective on bosses.
  • Optional and experimental:
Lightning Warp linked to whatever. nice secondary movement skill.
  • Worth mentioning:
Viper Strike + Increased Duration. for PvP, or just running around an early-game boss and watching it slowly die.
possible to level in Normal and early Cruel with it linked to Melee Splash. pretty effective.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we are aiming primarily for crit, dagger damage, and lightning damage.
keystones are Acrobatics, Phase Acrobatics and Ondar's Guile. full evasive that's fast and fun to play.
I will respec from the previously used Damage Over Time nodes (for Viper Strike), for this purpose.

note that I took Eldritch Battery simply because I got my hands on this:
Spoiler

but it is by no means mandatory for the build, in any way.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the build is still a work in progress.
feel free to comment here on anything, and suggest improvements.

The flaying cluster is useless later on in the game as you don't profit at all from the low physical damage you deal and the crit multiplier is only applied to the dagger attacks which are useless as well.

I would go for pressure points and/or heartseeker.

thanks Pyrokar.

my next planned skill points are indeed aiming for that direction, but right now Phase Acrobatics is a higher priority. as is Nullification, and a bit more life nodes since Act 2 Merc monsters hit hard.
that's why I'm a bit reluctant to give up on Flaying right now - because of the 10% life.

I'm also thinking towards Adder's Touch. would be a cool replacement for Viper Strike, but a lot less effective from the looks of it.

The flaying cluster is 5 points for 10%health you are close to 28% health above ondar's quile and you get 2 more points to put into acrobatics. Just a thought :P

P.s. For later levels i would also recommend droping the 5%chance to shock and lightning damage nodes and going for the 3 with 12% attackspeed and 4% blockchance while dualwielding in the shadow area and also going for the 8%attackspeed/20%accuracy into heart of oak and balistic mastery. I don't like "From the shadows" since it gives physical damage and a little bit of crit(20% per node). Also twin terrors is great since you are dualwielding. Something to think about if you want to push into the late 80's. (Arcing blows also useless at late game and i removed the few es nodes you had. You should also think about droping that EB node since it does absolutely nothing for you, i would just run clarity and purity of lightning for reflect :P)

What i would recommend

TIP: Get a lvl1 spectral throw to reduce mana/throw you don't need the phys dmg at all.

Ok, so i don't know why, but this build got me all hyped up for the new leagues. I am thinking about ditching the Cloak of defiance and getting a Lightning coil since you will definitely be running purity of lightning in late game and you are also gonna have 60%block/30%spellblock (add rainbowstrides and it goes to 45%) 40%dodge and 30% spelldodge on top of 250% hp and at least 20% evade (up to 40% depending on items). This is as hc viable as it gets imo.

My only issue is that you are gonna have a crit chance of ~45% (because of the low base crit of Ungil's) which is kinda low for a CoC build. *Solution: Maybe use a diamond flask?*

Thx for the inspiration John i will most probably be using this in the new leagues.

I have tried a similar build, which I have altered many times to try different spells. The biggest problem I had was health. Life on hit, or leach seem crucial. You can stack all the defenses but reflect is going to get you simply because you will be casting so many spells and for this spell in particular they all hit at once.

Granted I did not take phase acrobatics, but I think it may still be an issue. I had to get a 5 link and put some sort of life gain on it.

edit: The damage of your daggers will be negligible even with Adder's Touch. Ungil's physical damage just doesn't amount to much. Also Arcing Blows is somewhat wasted, the main source of your damage will be the spells. You could boost flat spell damage 32% with the first 2 witch spell nodes instead of taking AB and the dex node in front of it. I believe this will be a much larger boost for your damage.

At some point accuracy may become a factor. If you don't hit, you can't crit. Keep that in mind too, increasing crit or a damage node may not be as beneficial as getting your accuracy up.

Good luck, Dual Ungil's CoC builds have been my favorite to play and experiment with.
I can see your / Back is turned and / If I could I'd / Stick my knife in.

Great contributions guys. Thank you.
Thanks for the optimization, Xalmaren.
Thanks for taking this guide as a template, and creating an HC-viable version, Pyrokar.

You are welcome. I am also thinking of starting with a shadow instead of witch and going for the Dervish cluster in the duelist area for max block (with a +4 block corrupted lahzwar). Since the block chance is the only advantage you get from Ungil's at late game, why not push it to the max?

P.s. Arc for 5l and life leech for 6l. The shockstacks will be all over the place.

late game gear improvement option:

will make sure there's no longer need to time between Temporal Chains and Conductivity.
also, Enfeeble is an option for the tougher enemies.

Here is a theoretical "ultimate" build. SC version. (POE Builder link)

Balistic mastery will make your life a lot easier if you get it. Try this
instead of lahzwar to see the difference.
