Cleave vs. Dual strike

Cleave deals 60% of each weapon damage, so total damage should be 120%.
Dual strike has no damage modifies, so total damage is 200%.

That means that Dual strike should have 66% more damage (even less because Cleave adds 4% dmg per level and Dual strike 3%). But when I compare, Dual Strike has 2 times more damage - why is that ?
80% of 60% is 48%.
100% is roughly double 48%.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

dual strike adds the damage of the main hand and the off-hand with no penalties

cleave does this also, but the resulting damage is reduced by 40%.

edit: elemental damage is now included

You missed the key "80%" part.

So DW with Cleave gets hit twice? That's kinda unintuitive and feels unnecessary.

At 120% base a Conc-Cleave is about as effective as Splash-Dual, but at 96% :/
BreakingHearts/RhoaHood/BackAndVeryLate (Standard) | HushtailSweep/HushtailWeeps (Ancestor)
not really, cleave is just like dual, but with penalties and splash damage

There's currently no real reason to use Cleave+(any support) over DualStrike+Splash.
There's also no real reason to use (any 1h skill)+(any support) over DualStrike+Splash.

Until GGG fixes it, just consider "dual wielding" to be "dual striking".

Reave is not bad for the extreme radius (or a decent radius + Conc Effect, take your pick). You might also be running a Cast on Crit melee build, in which case attack damage is not a priority. Other than that though, yep.
