Anyone tried a Agies Aurora or Rathpith shield with this build.

My guess is you refer to elemental spells. Unfortunately Aegis doesn't help against spells since it doesn't grant any spell block. Of course, it gives you some kind of additional defense, but only if there's a fair number of attack-based mobs that you can actually block to benefit from Aegis.
Rathpith on the other hand would definitely help. I think with some respeccing, so you can actually run Hatred + Grace + Herald of Ash, you could use both Rathpith and Stone of Lazhwar. If you find a decent Lazhwar you get +30 INT, so if you're at 113 you'd only lack 16 so you can actually use Rathpith. And you'd get both capped block and spell block. Of course, you'd prolly have to drop Atziri's Step so you still retain capped ele res. I don't really have the currency to work it out in-game, but I think that would work pretty well. edit: I do actually have a 51% Rathpith in Standard, so I'll work on the build as soon as I'm home, which is probably Thursday. edit: So, I'll do some work towards getting a) more DPS, I think if we can reach 25k+ with a 5l we're good and b) getting at least 70% block and spell block, which will be a huge defensive advantage compared to dual wield which is what I wanna achieve (because as now dual wield outplays 1h/shield with 18k of additional damage) and if we achieve it... well, I think we could try Atziri. as far as starting out as lower levels go is there a certain type of weapon to use or does it even matter at lower level?

" Use whatever you can get your mitts on, heck for the longest time I was using a rare claw I had found. In early game that life gained on hit is nice, but keep in mind you will only eventually be able to use Leap Slam with an axe, mace, or sword. Try to find weapons that add the flat phys modifier, this would have prefixes like Glinting, Burnished, Polished, etc. Try to find weapons also with percentage phys modifers as well. If you have something that add flat elemental damage to your weapon, even if it's not fire, this won't matter at low levels and will just mean extra damage. And lastly attack speed modifiers help a bunch, it means more meatballs out on the field, which become the biggest part of your damage output. |

Well I was going to try to get gear that works with Aegis, Lazhwar, and Rainbowstride, but I'll wait and see what you come up with.
|
|
Aegis + Lazhwar + Rainbowstride would work, but you have to realize that by going this way you'd: a) get less spell block; b) spend more currency and c) lose a lot of life since none of those items grants life.

Yeah, we would have ~56% spell block and spend ~3 ex more. We'd lose life but we would gain es + es replenishment with block (a little elemental damage too). I dodged having to take an int node, but I'll probably have to if I get Rathpith, (current amulet gives more int than Lazhwar). So, before I decide what gear to use I'll wait to see what changes you'll make to reach ~25k damage and how your gear plays out. Currently sitting on 18k with 19/0 gems.

At level 92 it will have 74% (8% from plated defenses clump). Tree has 25% less max life than yours (4k hp atm). Last edited by MonsterMike636#5134 on Oct 12, 2014, 2:34:50 PM

Well, as I already said, I don't have any currency left in Standard, so making basically any changes is kinda hard at the moment. I'm thinking about adding Sovereignty to the 1h/shield version with the standard set-up of Hatred, Grace and Herald of Ash (+ Elemental Proliferation and Increased Burning Damage) and then adding Abyssus. It should up the DPS to 25k with a 5L. I just don't think I can get that much damage by just reworking the tree.
Right now I'm just playing the dual wield version and after update I have 39k tooltip DPS, 4,800 life (with 12% in life nodes to pick), 48% block and 12.7k armor. With a 6L and an Abyssus my DPS would go up to almost 59k. And I have still 8% attack speed to pick and my gems are "only" 18/20. Thing is, I don't even need that much DPS, with 39k I do significant damage in 78 maps in 6 men parties. So, when it comes down to the 1h/shield build, I'm kinda counting on you guys. Except of 25 regrets I'd need to up the tree I'd also need a lot of chaos to actually check things out. I don't wanna spread bad news, but it might come down to me updating the build after the 3 month leagues are over and my stash gets transferred to Standard. |

Well, as of now I'm experimenting with clarity. I changed my tree to be more like yours (bye all my regrets), because I'm running (blood magic + clarity + reduced mana) and need more life. I'm trying to make it so we can free up a gem socket at the cost of ~400 life and some nodes. I'll post results after I get it to work.

Alright I did some testing. I was able to replace Blood Magic by getting mana regen/reduction nodes and running BM + RM + lvl 11 Clarity (-437hp).
I replaced: -Int Node (don't need it atm) -IR (have 11k armour/1577 evasion(16% dodge)) -Golem's Blood (We lose 20% hp, Shaper makes up for 1% life regen). I'll post damage after I get my gems ~18/20. http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgQAAdwCcQSzDF8M9w4UFFIUdRjbGekaOButG_ocpyE0I_Yl3yftMgkyiTWSNuk8LT3iQYdHfkjuTZJOKk99UWBR5lOlU99W-lfiWNtZ81uvXh9en1_KYMRlTWaeapNsFmxGbmlybHKpd-V4DXiufEt82X11fuKAVoTZhxmKH5BVmSubLZuDnsWiAKOKpBmkwqeEqW6playqrK-vjbQvtPm18rZBtz63072Bvoq-p8APwBrDhsS4xPbGrstD0k3TftXt1fjXy9i93sHjaueR6dXsOO4O8B_56PrS_Ev-Cv66 |
