So the projectile calculation works from the base damage of the melee hit and has its own modifier list?

Base = Gear + Passives. Yes.

minus the 'melee damage' passives like at the marauder north root and strength bonus (without iron grip)

good info, thanks.

ergo iron grip does increase the fire damage portion of the projectiles

So let me get this clear.

1. Melee physical GEM will NOT increase the damage of the 3 molten projectile.
2. Melee physical PASSIVE SKILL WILL increase the damage of the 3 molten projectile since it is based on a % of the initial hit damage?

1. Correct
2. Depends on the passive. Physical Damage with X Melee Weapon works. Melee Damage doesn't work.

This is sooo confusing...physical damage is physical damage regardless of 2h, or global physical damage (2h, 1h, axe, polearm, mace).

I've just browsed through LS page and my god that is probably why I can never play a LS build but molten strike is so nice that I will have to force myself to learn the mechanics ><
how does LoH work with self punishment again?, you can LOH off yourself?
Sidenote on Iron Will: NO MANA MULTPLIER, so perhaps not the biggest dps boost imaginable, but well worth considering if you're running multiple auras and mana is tight.

Dual sword-wielder here.

I had a 5-link cyclone going (cyclone, endu-charge on m-stun, LifeGain On Hit, melee ph dmg, and bloodmagic to make that a selfsustaining economy).

Swapped my 20/20 cyclone out for a lvl18 faster attacks, and because it's such a cheap skill Molten Strike could safely take up bloodmagic's old spot. total mana-cost of the new gem-combo: 17

Instant substantial DPS boost.

P.S. This is one loud attack. Could the soundeffect get nerfed down to something more molten ash splashy, and less BAMBAMBAM ?

Do you mean Iron Grip?

And yeah, the sound doesn't seem to fit all that much.

I'm loving this skill so far. This is what I found so far.

- Chain and fork does not work, even though the tool tip says so.
- Faster and slower projectiles does not affect the projectiles in any way.

I tried point blank but could not tell if it made any difference. I am also not sure if point blank measure the time relatively to the max length of the projectile will be alive or if it is relative to some absolute value, such as one second.

- It works nice with concentrated and increased area of effect.
- It works well with more physical projectile damage.
- Lesser and greater multiple projectiles works like a charm.

All explosions from the projectiles can hit the same enemy, which makes this skill superb. The direction of the projectiles can not be controlled.

how did you tested that chain/fork not works?

its possible, that

you attack,
you create molten
the molten, travels 1sec, before it lands
the chain+fork, not makes the molten fly up in air again,
no it simply chains/forks within a 0.01sec? so you not see it?

if I link chain to molten
it somehow feels that I hit 2times more monsters per strike, then when I not link chain
you can not see this, you can only see this bye the fire effect on the monsters
it happens to fast to see what happens

to all the damage discussions?
what does damage matters, if you not know how the skill mechanics make overlaying hits
only then you know what onscreen dps means in effective dps

e/ just did a test vs a es-monster
same monster, same stats, same attack, same everything
I not kill monster, I let it regen es, for multiple test on same monster

I attacked it with molten gmp

1 sec later, I add chain+fork

my killspeed and my onscreen dps, somehow showed a decrease in killspeed vs 1target
exaxly how I wondered it would be
vs multiple targets from chain alone, it feels it goes 50%faster
fork may not be that great, but chain, why would it not work?

The dmg penalty will apply ( hence the decrease in clear spd ) but the chain effect would NOT work. Its interaction with chain is exactly like Rain of Arrows.

id like to hear again why combat log/floating dmg numbers are a bad ideas

skill like molten strike is a big bag of questions that players can only GUESS. not fun
Good lord, is this skill ever OP. Compare to Heavy Strike + Melee Splash, which costs one additional socket and still pales in comparison to this monster.

Molten Strike should be thwacked with the nerf bat. Hard. And repeatedly.

how you tested it, that chain not works?

that's the only question I asked, when people tell, that my chain testings are incorrect.

if I link chain to rain of arrows, tooltip not shows I can link it
you statements are incorrect
