Fireball question. Concentrated effect.

OK, so I have read a bunch of different things..some say this effects damage even if you are hitting 1 monster..others say only the monsters hit by the explosion are effected by the extra damage.

So..can anyone without a doubt tell me one or the other?

Example: LMP+Fireball+Concentrated Effect. Cast and all 3 fireballs hit a single monster with nothing around him.

He either a>takes extra damage from conc effect. or b> takes regular damage since he was hit by the initial hit and NOT the explosions.

I have been playing a fireball witch in a group setting through closed and open beta, I can tell you without a doubt that Concentrated Effect does not increase the damage done to the monster hit by the fireball however it does increase the damage which is causes by the explosion to nearby monsters.

For example if a fireball did 100 damage and hit 1 of 3 monsters grouped closely together, the fireball does 100 damage to the main target and 100 explosion damage each to the 2 targets next to it. (300 Total Damage)

With Concentrated Effect (Level 1) the fireball would do 100 damage to the main target and then 150 explosion damage to the 2 targets next to it. (400 Total Damage). In your example, all 3 fireballs would hit the same target as their main target, thus not benefiting from any AoE damage. However if the monster was stood next to another monster in range of the explosion then you would do 50% more damage to that target.

This support gem specializes in damaging targets that are tightly packed together, making it excellent if you have a tank that all the monsters run to. I have found the support gems chain and fork to be very nice with this combination as the fireballs will get passed along to close nearby targets allowing for more damage, the mana cost can get fairly high however.

I'll add conc effect to my aoe version of fireball and keep my single target version without.
