Would you max out the links as much as possible?

False advertizing. OP you need a huge disclaimer.... 6ex. Thats what I spent on 8 lvl 20 PoF and 6 PoLs trying for 21s all failed. I semi-ruined prolly 25 very good gloves and boots trying for +1 to gems. Odds are extermly low and random. Most likely you brick item.

Yeah i read some vaal corrupting logs when people always needed at least 25-50 items to get what they want, i was going to talk about it then i thought:

Vaal orbs give 3 results: Bad ones/good/nothing, see my other thread : http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/854397

Max Sockets/links is good only if you hope to get a corrupt implicit mod( Other than that the item stay inchanged)
If you plan to get a 6L from a randomly socketed/linked, expect to see yout item completely rerolled(uniques included), number of sockets do not matter.
