[The weird Sweet Breaker] ( BM - ZO - US - RT )

Hey folks

Here is a thread dedicated to a weird build which I have a lot of fun with : I call it the Sweet Breaker.
I wanted to just submit it to the "Build of the Week" thread, but since it looks dead, I'll make a thread but it here :].

The image is actually not what it looks like in game since I'm wearer a helmet with an awesome special art, but it's just for the spirit : a little girl .... that you want to get far away to.
A little horror movie girl : everything she touches will go BOOM !

videos

Here is a video introducing and explaining the build ( I have forgotten couple of things in there, also pardon my prononciation, I'm not a native english speaker at all, I'm living in one of the worst countries for that lol ).

To show that elemental reflect can be somewhat dangerous but is definitely manageable ( I dropped arcane vision during this level to grab the Amplify back ). There isn't 100% of the run, but most of it :
61% Cells ( lvl 73 )
- shocking ground
- inhabited by sea witches and their spawns
- 18% elemental reflect
- 87% extra damage as lightning
( -> 61% more items )

So this character has been built around the keystones :
- Blood Magic
- Zealot's Oath
- Resolute Technique
( - Unwavering Stance )

And is using the uniques :
- Infernal Mantle
- Face Breaker
- Meginord's Belt
- Abyssus
- Shavronne's Revelations

pros/cons

Pros :
- FUN ( that's the main point of the build to be honest :> )
- nice clear speed, you just explode packs of mobs
- no problem with reflect ( you might want to be careful in elemental reflect maps with - max res tho, or -max res maps with high life pool reflecting monsters )
- not afraid of necros at all, you don't leave many corpses behind you

Cons :
- forget about no-regen maps
- forget about heavy chaos bosses ( ex : museum ), Thena Morga is gonna be a huge pain in the a**
- half regen maps are dangerous
- Really hard physical hitters are gonna be dangerous since this build is not relying on leech for its main buffer.
- Caping resistances can be difficult considering the high number of uniques that this build is using.
- Shavronne's revelation is used for this build, and it's a unique that does not drop anymore. The build will be much less efficient with it I guess, you can try the phoenix shield to get more life regeneration, but your ES buffer will suffer from it ... I don't advise that. Blood Dance could also be an option I guess ... but I don't have enough dexterity for it plus there is no life and no ES on those boots, and no resistances.

Here is the passive skill tree at level 80.

How it works

This is actually quite simple :

- ES is the main buffer, Shavronne's Revelations + the multiple %increase life regeneration from the tree with Zealot's Oath gives a high ES regeneration which is the main defensive mechanism that this character is using !
- Your need to increase your life pool enough to survive chaos damage, I have ~1900 HP and ~1000HP reserved because of auras, that is enough unless you face heavy chaos hitters
- Since there is no life regeneration, some life leech from Warlord's mark + Blood Drinker is here to sustain it, there are also two life flasks used.

- The main skill is : Infernal Blow ( no surprise, I know ! ).
- The aoe version of it has melee splash and increased AOE/conc effect ( ideally both ) and gets boosted by the infernal mantle + has 25% of its fire part converted to chaos damage ( explosion AND initial hit ) : that makes it better against reflect, and better against elemental resistant mobs.
- the single target version uses stun, because this build hits quite hard and not fast = very useful against rare monsters / bosses.

The more you increase the area radius/damage, the more chances you have to blow something in there that could potentially kill something else that the initially hit didn't finish off, so the more radius you have, the more blowing up potential it gets basically !

I didn't take "Blast Radius" because I judged that other nodes were more important. I also just noticed that I forgot to grab the "Amplify" passive that I had pre-1.1.0 !!! I need to get this one back soon, I'll see what I'll give up for it later.

auras

- Determination : Abyssus is giving you a weakness against physical hit, so this build needs to have enough armor to counter this
- Discipline : more buffer = always good, plus it increases the ES regeneration
- Purity of fire : Against reflect, plus it helps you caping your elemental resistances

links

- main AOE (5) : Infernal Blow + melee physical damage + melee splash + increase Area of Effect + Concentrated Effect ( I'm using it without the concentrated effect for now, I've been switching those two last one with my 4L, and I feel better with the increased Area for now )
- Single target : Infernal Blow + melee physical damage + added fire damage + stun
- Auras : Reduced mana + purity of fire + determination + discipline
- Movement : Lightning Warp + Reduced Duration + Faster Casting + Enduring Cry ( EC is here to refresh endurance charges while not being hit, it also generates more of them at once of course )
- Triggered gem : Cast when damage Taken + Enduring Cry + Warlord's Mark
- Triggered gem ( switch ) : Cast when damage Taken + Enduring Cry + Devouring Totem
( I'm not using Immortal Call because I don't like this spell : it's just dumb, ugly, annoying and for pussies ! :> )

my gear

ES basically comes from boots, shield and Chest, so the shield needs to have enough ES so that the ES buffer will be high enough to survive !!!
It's also way better to have enough armor on it because of abyssus.
Priorities : life, elemental and chaos resistances, and flat physical damage.
Legacy Facebreaker is not needed, it is obviously more efficient, but without it it still works ( you will need one more hit to blow the packs maybe, that's basically it, and big monsters/rares/bosses will take a tiny bit more time to kill also.

flasks

Non-instant regeneration flasks : against chaos monsters and chaos over time damage
Instant life flask : against freeze, since this build has less than 2000 max health ...
Amethyst flask : against heavy chas hitters, and good against curses also
Granite flask : against physical hitters obviously, can be useful against reflect in a vulnerability map also
Quicksilver flask : ask captain obvious :>

That's it, it felt like sharing my weirdo build, I've been having a lot of fun with it and I'll push it a little further most-likely ^^.

EDIT : Just quickly, I pushed the character until level 90 early prophecy, it was pretty fun but now shit hits too hard anyway, abyssus without armour isnt exactly great.
Still, I am putting the current gear and skilltree :

I observed, as you build this character and I have to admit, that final result surpassed my expectations :)
Anticipation slowly dissipates...

It's performing better than I imagined tbh ^^
But those new zombies may make it more dangerous, I'll try some later tonight ...

I'm adding a video section at the end, I just did a rare cells with elemental reflect as reflect management example, I'm probably gonna add some more in the future =).

Niiice. This is one of only a few builds that uses the whole "ES = Life" erosion in an interesting enough way to justify having those mechanics the way they are. I don't know how many of my posts you read, but I rail on ES from time to time, so that should be taken as pretty high praise!

Have you considered using Blood Rage? If you can get that chaos resist the rest of the way up, it's less than 1% life degen, and you can take full advantage of that huge low life attack speed. One of the things I always wanted on my Facebreaker but could never find enough room for, was more attack speed. It's not needed for multiple consecutive hits, really, but just for that one punch.. it can take forever, and with the wonky AI we have and melee attackers randomly deciding to walk away to contemplate what they're doing with their life (I can only assume), a slower punch can sometimes cause a whiff.

OT: Something I always thought would be interesting, mentioning because it falls along a similar vein to this build, is using Spring Leaf for low life ES regeneration. Wouldn't work here, with Facebreakers, Abyssus, etc.. but with Shav's Rev and other passives, I could easily see 20% + ES regeneration with 5-6k es (1k+ es per second).

Anywho, cheers! This is super sweet, very combo-tastic. Definitely BoTW material.

Thx, I feel your 'pain' about hybrid build's place in PoE atm :(.

The problem with blood rage ( after the chaos resist ) is that it'd work low life for the attack speed, and since I need a consequent enough life buffer against chaos damage anyway, that would make the whole thing much more dangerous :S ( I'd need to let go of 200 un-reserved HPs basically, which means going from ~880 to ~680 or so, so that + the chaos res needed ... I don't think I'll try it out honestly ( I'd also need a lot more dext ).

Plus I like the slow hitting girl with the explosion effect to be honest :), it has a fun side that I really enjoy.
I thought about spring leaf also, but as you said it can't really fit since there gloves/helm are used already without ES.

If I had enough buffer/res without the boots, I'd run blood dance for extra regeneration though :] ( it is another alternative to Shavronne's revelation btw ).
