The Faster Attacks gem gave me 300 more DPS over the Faster Projectiles one which is surprising, both gems were level 16.

I've made it to level 48 on Ambush playing self found following the passive skill tree in the guide. Just arrived at Act3 in Cruel. I'm having big problems with mana (have 2% mana leech on quiver), as several others have said. I'm unable to sustain any type of attack without completely emptying my mana flasks. It's making me reconsider my early passive skill choices and skill multipliers on my gem setup. Perhaps drop the Life Leech for now due to the cost. I'm wondering if mid-leveling it might have been better if I had headed toward Mind Drinker and Mental Acuity first. I do have lots of damage where I can burn down a target pretty quickly.

Gem setup
4L Frenzy, PPAD, Life Leech, Faster Attacks
3L Split Arrow, Faster Projectiles, Pierce (looking to add a Life Gain on Hit and replacing Faster Projectiles with Faster Attacks))


I'm finding I'm using the basic default attack alot more than is enjoyable, just so I have mana available when rushed. I kind of feel like I have a ferrari where everywhere there is a 20mph speed limit :-) One tactic thats becoming a bad habit is popping in and out of town to replenish mana.

I am considering resetting some of my points to address the mana problems. That will mean delaying Iron Reflexes, Lethality and Revenge of the Hunted until later. I dont know how it will work out. I guess thats part of the fun.

I'm new to POE (this is my first league season). I was a pretty dedicated D2 solo player for many years playing rangers before moving on to SWTOR. I'm so happy to have found the game.

Keep in mind... ManaLeech Gem is REQUIRED at early Game!

I do Split Arrow - Life leech - Faster attacks - Blood magic, works great so far!

Used the free passive respec on my standard league ranger to test this build out.



Current test gear. Any suggestions?

My ranger is lvl 80 something got 99 skill points to use. Put all except 10 in following the 100 point tree provided.
Starting with lvl 1 gems though. Should i buy some high lvl gems to get started since my ranger is lvl 80 already?

What are the most important gems to have high level. Damage seems to suck with my lvl 9 gems.

Your Gear looks good for test gear....ofc here and there you can have a lot of impürovements!

I would suggest you buy a highlevel EK! EK DMG suxx at lowlevels!! Realy important to have EK on lvl18+ ...

I bought the bow the rest are some random items i found in my stash. Some better than others i guess.

So a higher lvl ek is what i need. Not gonna buy malegaro gloves. Some people want 20 exalted for them wtf what a nonsense. Used to be 1 ex for those gloves.

I solved my mana problems tonight by running Clarity and speccing into Mind Drinker (along with a 2% mana leech item) at level 49. My ranger is back to spamming Frenzy and is attacking Act3 Cruel (Ambush) with alot of confidence.

So I guess I deviated from the guide slightly by picking up some Mana help. Once I get some better gear I might be able to drop it and start running Grace which I'm leveling up on my switch set. Other than that change, I'm following the guide tree and she is very playing strong.
