does spell totems life increase with level increase?

I can't find a source for this, but it certainly seems so. I've been using a level 20 spell totem for so long I'm not sure I know - perhaps I'll test later.

The OP has explained somewhere (in a video or in the text, can't remember) that it makes no difference while the curses do not have quality. However, when one uses quality Flammability or quality Ele Weakness, things change in favor of Ele Weakness. The latter's bonus from quality is additional -resistances, resulting in about 6% dmg increase, while flammability's bonus is chance to ignite. Ignite is bad for us due to the fact that IIR/IIQ does not apply when using burning dmg to kill mobs off.

Depends what you're fighting. You'll need level 20 to do endgame mapping, but to just do some farming in a zone that doesn't have threatening things (I always had luck in places like Sewers and Catacombs, but I started doing maps real early) you don't actually need much totem health (if you use frost wall well).

Personally I plan on being like everyone else :D I will level up till 60-70 using Searing Totem + Inc Burning Dmg + Totem Resistances in a +2 to fire skills wand. Level 45 atm and I haven't had any problems so far. You could do the same while leveling your spell totem if it concerns you. Since a lot of mobs in Docks are fire resistant (esp. voidbearers) you might want to level up till 60 in Ledge. I believe you get 100% xp till lvl 60 in Ledge. That way your Spelltotem will lvl up, too.


This actually seems to work really well. My current spec even walks right by the early burning damage, so you can take that and only need to spec out of the 3 burning passives when you swap to incin totem.

Ha! I haven't even noticed those before. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: When I specced the burning dmg passives my SB dps went from 1630 to 2170!

I know the graphics are mad ugly, it's the only setting that would make PoE playable for me. For anyone interested in how I achieved this level of ugliness, I edited production_Config.ini. I put texture_quality=4, which is the lowest texture setting available, as you can see.

for a flame totem build and it looks interchangeable with yours, softcore ambush. lots of int, probably doing dual wands. im not sure how dual wands stacks up to a staff in terms of bonuses

Something I mentioned earlier in the thread: actually following a searing bond guide works very well (and then later backing into incin totems).

Something to note: As of 1.1.0, I'm not sure you can Frost Wall the projectiles from the Tentacle Miscreations. I was trying earlier, and the projectiles seem to pierce at all points now. Bit of a nerf for Frost Wall.

i just trying to get a build down that doesnt require int/dex/str on items to use end game gear or lvl 20 gems, but also has a good amt of dmg and life. im trying to get enough in to use proph wands and what passives to level first

yea piercing goes right through frost wall. i think their projectiles have innate pierce
This is my passive tree at lvl 61.


My plan is to go for Thick Skin next, in order to get enough dex to level Haste. After That, I'll get Diamond Skin and will probably respec the three burning dmg passives to transition to Incinerate totem finally.

They always have. However, before the patch, you could put a ton of frost walls in front of them and they would block the projectiles. Maybe I was just not stacking them the same way I usually do or something. Will test more later.
