Why is desync worse in this race than others?

Weapon progression:

died 5 minutes into the race, rerolled and tried rushing, got to level 23 before a bunch of chargers got me in the last zone.

This was my first Descent race but WOW what a blast! This was by far my best experience playing PoE - what a rush! Very much looking forward to the next one!

Died in the 6th minute. I swear, the first two levels are the hardest for Witches. I rerolled and managed to get 15th Witch.
