IIQ/IIR: MF Balance and Diminishing Returns guide (v2.2)

Chuca79, thanks for your work.

Would you clarify what you mean by 'Balancing' MF?

It seems some have concluded that 'Balancing' means that the two values should be the same.
IIR==IIQ ??

I think you mean balancing with overall game play, i.e. clear speed and safety, etc.

Given some charater/party configuration, lets define

Maps Per Hour==MPH
Expected Items Per Map==EIPM

Items Per Hour =EIPM * MF * MPH

Then some judgement factor for safety, either a threshold, or an inconvenience factor.

For example, I played a 450/147 MF for a bit, but I quit because I kept dying too much in standard.
In HC, the threshold is much lower.

Would it be easy for you to chart your returns in a 2D surface plot?

With "balancing" I mean taking both IIQ and IIR, and found the optimal values so our "C" becomes the best. A lot of people doesn't know how to tune up the MF values (due to they don't know the formula, they started to play in the new leagues where the IIQ is hard to get...)

And of course, those values should be balanced too with the clear speed and safety.

Tell the values you want to see and the format, and I'll try.

Thanks for your comment!

I always thought that MF is there to drop those high tier uniques which can be sold for tons of exalts.

If you drop it, of course. Would be nice if you read the whole phrase in the whole context, cos I explain it.
Just an example: from the last 20 hi-tier Uniques any guildmate dropped, 17 were with no MF gear. Maybe that Shavronne's Wrappings is the main goal, but not the general main purpose of the system.

I indeed had read your whole original post and I get it. After reading it however, from my perspective which is aimed towards high tier uniques not orb making from yellows... it simple means that I will just run without any MF and min max my build and hope for a valuable drop.
This is what I used a while back. Passive tree outdated.

But payout is pretty decent.

Anyone got a tip for a mostly solo player?

Currently have 100 IIR and wish I had numbers like in the graph.

This is on rampage.. currently got 50% from aurseize gloves, 36 from my helm and 14 from my boots for a total of 100.

best I can think of for quantity is getting the +20 quantity boots. but your graph goes up to 150 IIQ? what am I missing here? I'm sure I could stack some more rarity if i eventually find some better jewlrey and such but I don't see myself passing around 20 IIQ 200 IIR in the end.
It would be awesome if you could add more data for iiq between 20-40.

At the moment the graph will not help players in the new 3 months league.

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

IIQ items are more easy to be find in Standard mode. Technically speaking, you will have to buy those IIQ items as this will save you the time to farm them.

pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Item_Quantity
This gem alone with 20%Quality will give you 43% IIQ

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Item_Rarity
This gem will give you 57% IIR and 10% more for 20%Quality

There also have axe and shield which can give you 30-40IIR each (as you know you cant equip both...)

With the IIQ belt, gloves and boots, you can get another 35-50 IIQ. But the problem is that these items are low level items. Which other word to say is that you need to have a good dps killing all the high level enemy before they hit you as you have less survivability. There have some more IIQ ring/amulet/helmet but they are quite costly.

I use these to farm Dominus (101% IIQ and 164% IIR)

Usually got 30+ magic, 16-20 rare and 1-2 unique in every 5 run.

As you can see these items arent that great as the roll isnt that good for end game. End game item with IIQ and IIR will be costly and I still working on the currency and hoping to buy some before this 3 months league finish...

P.S Have tried 106% IIQ and 201% IIR. I found that the drop rate isnt any better than 101% IIQ and 164% IIR. Just a few more magic items dropped from monster. and I believe I wont be able go up to those crazy 300% IIR...

Returns are the amounts of rares and uniques that you recorded for each configuration.
Lets call them R and U.

You can use the same plot axis that you made for C, just substitute R and U.
I suppose two graphs are needed, one each for R and U.

Well, but... that would be the same graph I linked, but just horizontal instead of vertical. Do you really need it?

Chuca79,
I am talking about graphing the data in this chart: http://www.poesp.com/images/rundominuse.jpg
