[1.0.3] Evantis's Poison arrow build: 4978 chaos damage per second
time for some theorycrafting:
assuming we did go crazy and built a max potential PA Passives (this is obviously lacking in any defenses): 434 base PA (level 26) Gems and their buffs: Poison Arrow (26) Conc. Effect (21): 70% (x) Empower Trap (21): 35% (x) Remote Mine (21): 50% (x) q20 Slower Projectiles (21): 38% (+) Vulnerability: 40% (x) From passives you get: 137% increased projectile damage (+) 162% increased mine damage (+) 168% increased trap damage (+) 12% increased area damage (+) gear bonus: 12% increased area damage from carcass jack (+) 40% increased trap damage from sunblast (+) total additive (+) bonus = 528% (434 + (434*5.28)) = 2291.52 cloud dps put in multiplier (x) bonuses 2291.52 * 1.35 (trap) * 1.50 (mine) * 1.70 (conc. effect) * 1.4 (vulnerability) = 11043.98064 poison cloud dps well that was fun the +2 bow skill gem would still work on the PA gem since it is looking for the bow tag on a per gem basis, not the end mechanic of dispensing the skill Cuddles' DoT trapper build: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/683322 Last edited by Cuddlepaws#1291 on Dec 11, 2013, 8:30:06 AM

How would you counter the high mana cost of Poison Arrow? Can mana leech work on the DoT damage?

From poe wiki: "For instance, the Chaos damage from Poison Arrow is not Area Damage, it is damage-over-time which is applied to any enemy within an area of effect. Concentrated Effect therefore will not increase Poison Arrow's damage, but it will still reduce the radius of its AoE"

I have one main question or flaw in this build plan.
What are you going to do in order to keep your life up. What are you going to do to sustain mana. I don't see you surviving on just flasks. In the past I have built PA builds around life regeneration, but you need an awfully high amount of it. I have two methods, but the problem is it takes up skill points. This is the fundamental flaw with GGG's choice to make these skills based on our passives, in order to make them work before the passives were used to compensate for other areas that lacked. This isn't to say we can't make it work, it is just going to be a challenge to get it right. If you are running your skills based on mana I would assume you are going to need some mana regen and run clarity at a minimum. Or get a lot more mana regen and EB. PA would be a great skill to run arctic armor with. Although I like the idea of life regen, it takes a lot of points, and it would be hard to do both to the point of surviving on hardcore, which brings up the option of blood magic passive. Still takes a ton of points however. As far as easy ways to boost dps, remote mine support probably would be superior, although I would rather be the archer shooting hte arrows, just depends on how viable you want to be. |

I don't see mana problem here. You have 20% mana regeneration from Meltal Akuity keystone, just add one or two jewelry pieces with of Euphoria suffixes (50-59% mana regen) and even with a low level Clarity you can forget about mana issues.
Life regen can indeed be problematic as this build has 1% regeneration only... some Split arrow + GMP + Chain + Life on hit for fast healing, maybe? IGN @Ostropalca

For what it's worth, I don't think Iron Grip works with Poison Arrow. The quality will apply, but the melee physical won't convert, from what I can tell.
"The damage bonus of strength normally applies only to Melee Physical Damage. This gem causes strength's physical damage bonus to also apply to projectile attacks made with the supported skills. Only physical damage dealt by the projectile will be increased." http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Iron_Grip_%28support_gem%29 Could be out of date.
