[1.xx] Islidox's Build tips/critique section for Rangers

Hello everyone.. Waiting for client to be DL (my speed fall from 900 kb/s to 40Kb/s so it will take a while) i managed to think about what to do once i'm in.

Looking to some streams i fall in love with rain of arrow so my idea was about using frenzy as ST and raid of arrow as AOE (ofc some hints about support gems could be fine aswell).
So that's what i was thinking about my build

As u can see is based on evasion/dodge, life usage due to BM.. i tried to cap as much life nodes as possible like some all resist and frenzy charge (to support my main ST skill), using some points to increase my dmg aswell.

I ended up having free access to a lot of other life nodes, accuracy (if needed), evasion and even dmg.

Just wonder to know if the passives i choose are good for the skills i would to use mainly (frenzy, RoA) and if there are soem waste points or any path i could change to optimize some stats.

Rly thx for helf and advice :)

Wanna try full glasscannon ranger, if comeone builded it already - could u show me skill treee?
Hey I am totally new and wanted comments on a build of mine which is of 93 points found here
I was thinking of creating a mix but more of a tank type of ranger and please tell what other things such as Armour i should use with the build along with any improvements. sorry if the build is totally out of whack or anything as i am still noob. Writing this while updating.

As one of the more experienced rangers told me when I created and posted my first build here, "Too many mistakes to correct them one by one." Look for the builds provided by Islidox on first page (not first post).

Short but by far not complete list of mistakes:
- huge amount of skill points in +10 STR/DEX/INT nodes [You generally want to have minimum of those]
- you took various charges (frenzy, power) but not enough. They are used to power up certain skills so unless you plan to use them, there is no point take them at all.
- you took crit damage multiplier but no crit chance nodes. You missed 2 best crit chance clusters along the way, one near ranger starting area and the other one in shadow tree (both being probably the best crit chance nodes available to ranger).
- you went to several dead ends, spending lots of skill points, for no notable passives. (Notables are mid-sized nodes on the skill tree, large ones are called Keystones). [You generally want to always move toward notable or keystone node]

The reason why I don't make a mention of melee Ranger builds in this thread is because they require far more gear than necessary and are unsuitable for an OB build. Unless the quest rewards have changed, I maintain this stance. Other players who are well-versed in PoE mechanics, gameplay, and overall knowledge can make full-fledged melee Ranger builds with a little bit of character farming. (Rolling characters for their quest rewards)

To be fair I worked up a basic dual wield build and it is actually pretty similar to some of the ones posted. I would link to it but I am posting from my phone. I agree it takes a higher echelon of gear and gems to really get a melee ranger going which is why I am doing the easier elemental archer build first.

A friend of mine is going to play and we are making a duo of characters who will level together. Since he is going with the critical cold witch, I may level the DW build with him since he will be OP. However I may go with the super conservative Resolute Technique and Blood Magic Marauder instead. Decisions decisions.

I am curious though if anyone can tell me more about pure evasion builds. I could not make one work in CB and it looks like Iron Reflexes is still almost mandatory. The wiki still gives the same formula so I assume the mechanic is still wonky and weaker than stacking Armour ES etc.
Thanks for the help Baron01
I have first few comments and observations from OB, got to lvl27 just recently, while servers are acting up.

I have chosen to build a physical-frenzy-split arrow-using ranger (with Piercing shots). It seems that the game got harder from closed beta or the physical damage & the build is grossly under-performing. I also have severe mana issues because of Frenzy heavy mana consumption.

I wanted to go pretty much standard Frenzy build (just with Piercing Shots) but after rather disappointing start I think I might change the build to physical-crit-frenzy-split arrow build:

So how's your experience so far? Comments and suggestions on build are welcome.
I'm going to address several of the easier questions in this post.

@electrolights: LA may not have been AS strong as before, but it's still viable the sense that its damage will scale upwards as you level it and is an AoE attack. There's also Burning Arrow, Ice Shot, Explosive Arrow, and Elemental Hit to think about, so nothing is lost. Petrov's build allows for a variety of elemental attacks, not just lightning arrow.

@okko01: copy paste the URL link in the address bar at the top of internet browser you're using. There's also a link you can copy from at the bottom right corner of the passive-skilltree page.

@asgorn: I can't really recommend this build because you barely have ANY passives sunk into damage, leading to a highly tanky Ranger that takes too long to kill things. This also means that you'll also have a harder time killing other things for you level up to the point that you CAN be tanky.

@froman345: There are no glasscannon builds here, and I would never recommend it with this game and its difficulty level.

@LunacyPolish: evasion + dodging is actually stronger than armor from what I've heard and read, but the issue is that melee users are always in the thick of battle, getting constantly hit. You will get hit, and as such going IR is the safer, less risky path to take. Ranged builds can utilize evasion + dodging well enough.

@Kanechart: Build 2 is considered the safer version because it relies on armor instead of evasion and dodging as its defense. (less risk) As for things to look for on gear, I'll make a separate post.

Gear Priorities:
For gear, I'll go over the things you want and need on your equipment:

Chest/Helmet/Boots/Shield:
+ % of evasion rating
+ flat evasion
+ life
+ % Resistances
+ 15-30% movement speed for boots
+ % block chance for shields
+ Int for helmet (if you need it)

Gloves:
+ % of evasion rating
+ flat evasion
+ life
+ % Resistances
+ attack speed
+ flat physical/elemental damage
+ Life or Mana leech

Rings/Amulet:
+ flat or % physical/elemental Damage
+ attack Speed
+ life
+ % resistances
+ x stat attributes
+ life or mana leech
+ mana Regen

Belt:
+ life
+ % Resistances
+ % weapon elemental damage
+ charges gained or less charges used
+ Strength or Armor

Weapon:
+ % Attack Speed
+ flat physical/weapon elemental damage
+ % increased physical damage (IPD)
+ % critical strike chance and multiplier
+ accuracy rating
+ hybrid rolls of accuracy/IPD

Quiver:
+ % weapon Elemental Damage
+ flat physical/elemental Damage
+ attack speed
+ flat life
+ % Resistances
+ % critical strike chance and multiplier
+ life or mana leech

If you're a BM build, try to get some gear with life regen on it or life gain on hit or life leech on gear. Likewise with mana builds, but with mana regen/GoH/leech.

Don't forget that you're not restricted to using strictly Ranger gear. Using Duelist gear can allow you to get an easier combination of green and red sockets and a combination of both armor and evasion. (I've seen some decent hybrid gear.)
