~~~Super Tank Storm Caller (4 auras, 6k life, 15k armor) Updated Dec. 14 2013~~~
Still updating and improving build
So im sure a lot of people are playing with storm call, doing totem builds etc, but I believe my build is quite unique and extremely effective whether solo or end game in groups. The leveling process is also quite enjoyable, although I am only level 70 atm, but the build is quite fun to play and I should hit at least 80 in the next two days or so.
The general idea of my build is to scale damage entirely off shock stacking and elemental proliferation, while going for all tanky nodes, hp, auras reduction nodes, evasion nodes.
The only items that are must have is Carcass Jack, I use firetrap for single target to help out on the damage of those really hard to kill rares etc. Normally you would ele prolife all the mobs around him so he is 3 shock stacked, and the fire damage will burn the crap outta him. The only real problem with this build is targets like piety who like to run around a lot and there are not a lot of mobs around her to prolife if any at all, this is similar to kripp's discharger's weakness as well, but with a high level fire trap and storm call I think it is doable.
Strengths of the build
Spoiler
It runs 4 auras, vitality, determination, grace, purity of lightning, pretty much all the defensive ones you need. Running with blood magic and high life, the life regen is very helpful as you can spam all the skills you want with having to worry about mana issues, half regen is no problem as well but no regen maps will take a bit slower.
Shock stacking is also extremely effective in groups as the whole packs are fully shock stacked within seconds, the damage output is extremely high for AOE (single target is a bit lacking but that's what spectral throwers are for). And you can easily shock single targets down as well.
General weakness to the build
Spoiler
You need to pay attention to your hp, because storm call takes 1.5 seconds before it goes off and before life leech kicks in, this is why you need to be tanky when soloing. So mobs like rhoas and charges are very scary, its best to granite up if u see these and then blast em down asap
Elemental reflect is also an issue, because of the stock stacks and high damage you will be putting out, to combat this, I use purity of lightning which should put my lightning resist at a good 82% when max level, still I would consider not doing ele reflect maps or -max maps, or to do them with caution. When I get very late game I will consider using a topaz flask to mitigate the damage from ele reflect although I will have to do some testing when I get higher level. (not much of an issue after some testing, ele reflect maps are fine).
Blood magic maps are also not recommended as you need the 4 auras.
*Indoor maps are actually very annoying after some testing, so maps like Crypt, thicket etc, this is because the build is much faster at clearing large packs that utilize the shocks from proliferation. Similarly, bosses without mobs around them will take a bit more time, but that is what fire trap is for, Piety runs will take a bit longer if compared to a spectral thrower's dps output because she likes to run around a lot to dodge your storm calls and firetraps.
Bandits
Spoiler
Help oak in normal
Kill all in cruel
Kill all in merc (you can help oak if u feel the 4th endurance charge is needed) I prefer the extra point.
Skills
Spoiler
5L Weapon RRBBB
Storm call, Blood mag, life leech, elemental proliferation and lightning penetration (inc aoe or faster casting for 6th link)
4L GRRB
Grace, Vitality, purity of lightning, reduced mana
2L/2L RR RR
CWDT, enduring cry / determination, reduce mana
4L GRRB
conductivity, temp chains, blood magic, Decoy Totem/devour totem
4L Carcass Jack GRBB
Fire trap, conc effect, blood magic, chance to ignite
Weapon swap RRG
Leap slam, faster attacks, blood magic
I don't think faster casting gem is good at all with this skill, the damage output of an extra blast is nowhere near compared to elemental prolife or lightning penetration!
As for quality gems, its good to have a quality lightning pene, inc aoe and life leech, the rest of the gems quality is not needed. And its IMPORTANT to NOT have a quality storm call, because you don't want to crit, dmg from shock stacks is enough, reflect is too scary that even the base 4% crit is unwanted, I may end up changing the build to take resolute technique if needed.
Alternate End game builds Updated Dec 14. 2013
Spoiler
You can drop determination, and get Dual curse, armor should be around 10-11k, which is enough if you play safe and use dual curse to be more support, while shock stacking if the group.
This build also drops determination, but you get an extra 66% lightning damage.
-Ultimately you can also drop unwavering stance as well and gain 9 points while losing 24% hp and some strength nodes to put in more offensive stats such as the 66% lightning dmg or dual curse, and keep determination, although unwavering is extremely important if you plan to solo a map with chargers or hard hitters.
My Gear
Capped all resist, and over capped for elemental weakness, 120%, chaos is also at 0, although having +20 or so would be better. Gear totals to maybe 4-5 exalts, although you could make it work with 1-2 exalts its a very cheap build indeed, I don't even have a 5L yet.
Spoiler
Mapping - Mods to avoid
-Minus Max resist, this is doable but do so with caution, a single reflect pact may mean death
-Blood magic, running 4 auras is essential to being tanky with this build
-Elemental reflect, this mod is actually fine to do except when coupled with other nasty mods, or if you happen to get very nasty monster types
Thanks for reading, hopefully you will give this build a try, if you have any questions pm me @LotusShell and id be glad to help. Also if you have suggestions on improvements id be happy to hear em :)!
I was just thinking: since you have a lot of reduce mana reservation node and don't cast skills using mana, why don't you run clarity additional to support Artic Armor?
This would make you even more tanky.
don't think that would work, all skills are cast using blood magic, and with 4 auras totalling 200% (vitality 40%, determination 60%, grace 60%, purity of lightning 40%). Mana reserved nodes total to 31% + a level 19 reduced mana which reduces again by 28%.
so theres under 1% mana that isn't reserved.
But thanks for the suggestion.
Updated alternate end game builds for those playing standard and feel they need more damage output.
Sorry for not uploading a video of gameplay footage, ive just been really busy and I still need to get video recording software (if some1 can recommend one to me that's free thatd be great). And im still in the process of getting a level 19 reduced mana to run determination, which is gonna take 1-2 more levels (im at 83).
So far, it seems the damage/clearspeed for maps is only average I would say in parties, clearspeed solo is better because you kill pacts in one round of storm call blasts and move on. It does not compare to spec throw builds or bow builds at all in parties, but the build is great utility because of providing 4 defensive auras to the party and providing MAX shock stacks on curse immune maps etc, it ramps up the entire parties dps a lot.
