By the way: the scroll portal is a form of currency, you can use it to sell and buy item. It's a consumable, if you use it you can't use for trade.
On the other hand, the gem if eternal, it cost only some little mana point that will be replenished immediately in town.

The choice is easy, just take a gem with you, whenever you need a portal, swap the skill.

yeah thats a good idea in theory to get the best of both worlds, but how long would you really keep that up when u could carry scrolls that take up the same room and wouldnt need a skill swap to cast.

I know from personal experience ideas like this sound good when you think of them but get to tidious in the long run when faced with a faster option.

Not saying some people of iron will couldn't last it out, but I think most people would get tired of the skill swap pretty quick.

But yeah I didn't consider the trade value of scrolls, does change my paradigm slighty. But I still have my doubts of the real long term value of this gem at end game. But yeah its very shades of gray.

Personally, in every game i played, i have a sort of "fobia of consumables": "If something is not infinite don't use it until you really need (ndr: never)"

So, i probably will go for the gem :D

well the very fact we are having this disccusion about this skill is a good thing, its something slighty new and quirky and I do really like it, I just hope it works out in the long run. Def gonna give it a good go when zombie jesus infects me with beta-adictivatus :)

I think that you'll get quite a few people with TATU syndrome, even for Town Scrolls. As the man quoted, anything that has an intrinsic secondary value and isn't infinite you'll probably always hand on to because you want to get the most out of it.

Truthfully, if you had low/no mana after a rare/boss encounter and want to go back to your stash, you'll also want to avoid using a mana potion just to use town portal so scrolls will still have there place, if only situational.

Unless of course mana potions are too abundant, which in a potion-popping ARPG like this is a bad thing.

Scrolls should be single use, rara/expensive items that provide additional utility over the town portal gem. The TP gem should level up to become more useful, but scrolls should be the "FUBAR" equipment of choice.
To me the key point is that scrolls are a currency item, meaning that if you use the gem you are going to be more able to buy all the cool stuff you want; in my opinion that is enough to make it worth while.

Also, in regard to wanting to save slots for better things, you can always just keep it rattling about in your inventory and switch it over when you need to portal. This would be about as much hassle as going into your inventory for a scroll, and as Mark said earlier, they dont want portals to be a way of escaping easily from a tight spot
