[1.1.X] Arctic Breath + Fireball "Cast on Crit" Frenzy Wander (with Video)

Like I said I'm my previous post, I decided to replace Arc with Fireball. Also, I'm now using 5 frenzy charges and 6 power charges instead of 4 frenzy charges and 7 power charges. Finally, to leech ES with berek's grip, I'm using a 4L Cold Snap to reliably freeze targets.

If you read my previous posts, you'll see that I tried Barrage. I explained in details the advantages and disadvantages of Barrage vs Frenzy.

Overall, I prefer frenzy though.

Hello. I've recently came across this build after playing a spectral throw CoC build using CoC with fireball and ice spear. Is Ice Spear a viable option for Arctic Breath? Also, if all you had was a 4L, would you take arctic breath 1st or fireball as your CoC spell?

Here are some of the main differences between the Ice Spear and Arctic Breath :

- Ice Spear seems to be travelling slightly faster than Arctic Breath

- Arctic Breath direct damage is almost 36% higher than Ice Spear (average of 266 vs 196).

- Ice Spear naturally pierce targets, not Arctic Breath.

- Arctic Breath deals Area of Effect Damage on Impact, not Ice Spear.

- Ice Spear crit chance is 7% compare to 5% for Arctic Breath. With +500% chance to crit (with 6 power charges), Ice Spear crits 42% of the time compare to 30% for Arctic Breath. With 360% crit multi (my stats), the average damage (including crits and non-crits) of Ice Spear is then 410 compare to 473 for Arctic Breath. Even with very high crit multi, Arctic Breath will always be on top. With second form Ice Spear, its different though : Ice Spear chance to crit jumps to 84% (from 42%). Damage of second form will be 706 compare to 410 in first form.


How often does Ice Spear deal 2nd form damage? Does it compensate for lack of AoE damage of the spell ? The answer to those 2 questions should give you an idea of what is the best spells for the build. I need to run tests myself to get a better idea.

And if I had a 4L, I'd use Arctic Breath. I find the spell to have a nice balance of damage, AOE and crowd control ability (Chill + Freeze).
